You obviously haven't seen some of the posts on pprune going back quite a few years, not everyone looks at the world through the eyes of dear old Brucie.

smile
I read the first 5 pages of the thread linked on the previous page and didn't see anything too bad.

I'm not sure why I should consider the views of a few waitresses posting anonymously on the Internet as gospel mind....
Then feel free to think as you wish.

For a bit of balance, a member of my immediate family is cabin crew for a large international carrier and can recount some superb tales re so called celebs in transit.

Scylla (as she was known) is (was) reknowned throughout the industry for being an obnoxious egotistical old witch whenever she travelled by air, her weird and crazy demands for instant personal attention were legend.

Some tales state that she wouldn't speak directly to cabin staff, only via her personal assistant who always travelled with her. This I can state from my impeccable source, is true.

The old cow, she came from nowhere, did nowt of any consequence unless you count Blind Date and Surprise Surprise as examples of cultural progress.

As a singer she was ste, an electronic vibrato plus other enhancements progressed her career but as a naturally talented voicesmith? bks.
Have some fking respect for the dead will you!!!

Anyway, in latest news, police in Spain are currently compiling a list of suspects for her death. They're all music lovers....

I'm not a fan of her work, but this is a very unfair assessment. At its peak, blind date got 18 million viewers. Strictly Come Dancing, by comparison, gets 10 million. Clearly she was a talented presenter. Again, as a singer, Anyone Who Ever Had a Heart was the best-selling record by a female artist of the 60s.

Hearing some of her songs has reminded me what a bad singer she was, she made a little go a very long way.

The living embodiment of Groucho Marx's gag "Sincerity is the key to success. Once you can fake that you've got it made.

True pro's make it look easy though, obviously knew how to work an audience and appear to be someone you felt you knew, just like Wogan, lynam, etc.

Care to list your life's achievements, for when you pop your clogs ?
Mine are in business (both employed and separate personal stuff) and so don't qualify for today's celebrity driven culture. Have a read of my obit and estate when I die if you want.
I shall look forward to that; will you be long?

I really can't see how she was considered a singer, it was pretty dreadful if we are honest, was the country still in the grip of rationing or something, Lulu managed a similar trick by just going "wehahahahahah" and then is rolled out every five years to perform it, lest we forget.

She did Blind Date very well to be fair, not my cup of tea but it was a major force in Saturday night popular TV, Ant and Dec have taken her mantle over

She's just had over 20 mins and on the local news here in the NW. They've wheeled out the standard Scousers, Gerry from the pacemakers, Stan Boardman, Jimmy Tarbuck et al, plus a huge amount of rent a grievers banging on about how they knew her and generally making up stories, along with some of them bursting into tears, and a few classics "one of our own", "working class girl made good", "never forgot her roots".

It's no wonder that Liverpool gets slated for its OTT grievance status when it's opened a book of condolence and the flag is flying at half mast at the Town Hall.

It's a load of crap, she was a bit part singer.

God help us when Sonya pops her clogs.
clap This.

That kind of malarkey should only be wheeled out when a figure of national importance dies (if at all) but then, as you say, it is the capital of "woe is us" and I say that as someone whose entire family hailed from Liverpool. Tellingly almost all went on to live hundreds of miles away! And what happens to the book of condolence anyway? Who receives it, the family, I presume? One of us my hat. Her and Lulu were/are two of the worst exponents of turning up the "native" accent for effect before going back to pseudo posh or transatlantic drawl; sure, you can't be expected to stay in Knotty Ash when you have the money to escape but she made Sean Connery look like he never left Scotland. Heck, McCartney is more Scouse and he's been around the world more times than space debris.

Still, like her or not, she made a little go a very long way with obvious drive and determination blazing a tv career that would be the envy of many.

Just hope Christian Benteke's career doesn't die after leaving the Villa...

18 million viewers? Back when there were a whopping FOUR channels to choose from?

Not a fan at all, but I was a teenager in the 60s and she was simply a back street girl who made big ...and lasted. Today, who will last 50 years? Who do you consider a singer/entertainer who will last that long? Let's compare it to the absolute st churned out by some of today's 'pop' or whatever you like to call it today, you know, the likes of the now many foul-mouthed or blatant and downright obscene because that's the only way they get attention: one example, 'twerky' Cyrus - she's 21, same age as when Cilla became the biggest selling female singer, Cyrus whose talent extends to being half-naked on a wrecking ball while her tongue virtually licks the back of her head. And of course all the other x factor crap.

We've progressed hellishly from the 60s eh? Oh, and the 60s was a tad after the grip of rationing I think? ...no, I know! Progressed so far that not to speak ill of the dead has long gone, and rest in peace for many simply means time for jokes and downright sick vitriol. Pathetic.

Chrise, comment from some on here you'd think CB had been a mass murderer!

I read an article in which some "mate" of hers called Terry McCann said she was wishing death upon herself as she blah blah etc.
Now Terry McCann of all people - maybe he got a "nice little earner" out of grassing up on "er indoors"

The world is a different place. She needed to build a new career after her singing career, which was the equivalent of an X Factor winner. The Miley Cyrus comparison is irrelevant. She is a multi millionaire and therefore doesn't need to hunt down a Saturday night presenting career.

Pah!
You nearly got it right with the Cyrus sentence, just delete the words 'The' and 'comparison'.

However, you got it absolutely spot on with your first sentence!

Exactly. Given the amount of choice nowadays, content on demand etc, I think 10m viewers is more impressive today than 18m back then.

No fan of Miley Cyrus but there has been loads of better female singers since Cilla, Adele for example, her songs will last, As will many others, Cillas do but less on quality, more just because they were there at the time, she was a better TV presenter than singer.
