I really can't see how she was considered a singer, it was pretty dreadful if we are honest, was the country still in the grip of rationing or something, Lulu managed a similar trick by just going "wehahahahahah" and then is rolled out every five years to perform it, lest we forget.

She did Blind Date very well to be fair, not my cup of tea but it was a major force in Saturday night popular TV, Ant and Dec have taken her mantle over
Not a fan at all, but I was a teenager in the 60s and she was simply a back street girl who made big ...and lasted. Today, who will last 50 years? Who do you consider a singer/entertainer who will last that long? Let's compare it to the absolute st churned out by some of today's 'pop' or whatever you like to call it today, you know, the likes of the now many foul-mouthed or blatant and downright obscene because that's the only way they get attention: one example, 'twerky' Cyrus - she's 21, same age as when Cilla became the biggest selling female singer, Cyrus whose talent extends to being half-naked on a wrecking ball while her tongue virtually licks the back of her head. And of course all the other x factor crap.

We've progressed hellishly from the 60s eh? Oh, and the 60s was a tad after the grip of rationing I think? ...no, I know! Progressed so far that not to speak ill of the dead has long gone, and rest in peace for many simply means time for jokes and downright sick vitriol. Pathetic.

Chrise, comment from some on here you'd think CB had been a mass murderer!
No fan of Miley Cyrus but there has been loads of better female singers since Cilla, Adele for example, her songs will last, As will many others, Cillas do but less on quality, more just because they were there at the time, she was a better TV presenter than singer.
Cilla sang other people's songs - badly. Bruce Forsyth has had an incredibly long career, does that make him a comedy genius?

I'd also blame her for the inexorable rise of dumbed down, moronic Saturday night TV.

The vitriol stems from her seemingly being a bit of a bh in real life.

Sir Cliff Richard is due to sing at the Mass at St Mary's RC Church in Woolton.
TV stars Paul O'Grady, Jimmy Tarbuck and Christopher Biggins will join her sons Robert and Ben in giving readings.

I used to go to the Cavern each week during 62/64 and can't even remember Cilla singing at all - more interested in the pretty raw sound of groups like The Quarrymen etc. Then she kind of burst onto the pop scene along with a number of other Liverpool performers and the rest is history! Never was a fan tbh but each to there own and lets try to be more considerate in the comments as she was a mum as well as a TV personality. Well at least for today eh!

The internet is very good at harnessing vitriol and hate. One of it's less pleasant attributes.

So our office has a big TV with Sky News always on..... part of the job.

But really, are Sky going to show the whole funeral service, live....

Not really sure this is warranted...

I think he'll be staying as long as some idiot is paying him.
