Why is Tony Blair so unpopular?

Because he married Cherie and we had to suffer for it.
Yes. I'm a great believer in not judging books by their covers and giving people the benefit of the doubt, but equally, I'm firly staunchly of the opinion that youcan judge people b the company they keep, especially their partners.Cherie Blair is utterly vile. I think, if one story sums up my opinion of her, it was the Australian "supermarket sweep" incident. (Google throws up ample background for those not familiar.) I less enlightend time, they used to say that "behind every great man there is a great woman" and conversley, I believe that she has had a hand in a good share of his greed and mendacity.

I reckon there's a couple of reasons:
He's the only Labour leader since the 1970s to win a general election, therefore of course Toryboy hates him, and
Turned out he was even more of a Tory himself than all of the Toryboys, so they hated him even more for that.
Was just going to post this. He's the only Labour leader since the 1970s to win a general election, therefore of course Toryboy hates him, and

The right hate him because he was a Labour leader people actually voted for.
The left hate him because he wasn't left wing enough.

The exact same could be said of Cameron and Libya yet he doesn't cop any flak for that.
Yes he does - mostly from kippers anyway - because Labour is ineffective opposition on anything other than Austewity. And the HUGE difference from Bliar is that Camoron didn't LIE to push it through Parliament. If he did then he could be rightly accused of doing a Tony.MarshPhantom said:

Im just highlighting the ridiculousness of posting pictures of one prominent person meeting another and then trying to make a personal connection between them. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/revealed-ji...

Thats because you suffered from education, education, education :Paperbag:
At he start, in the mid 90s, with the country as cool, and him with clinton in the usa, it was all very exciting. Then the ego arrived (both his and hers), Bush was elected and the whoe world bdcame a very dangerous place
The Florida voting fiasco would indicate he was not so much elected as installed in a coup d'etatAt he start, in the mid 90s, with the country as cool, and him with clinton in the usa, it was all very exciting. Any decent journalists in the UK or abroad should be thoroughly investigating this to uncover what actually happened.

It's rather fashionable to loathe Tony Blair, particularly on Pistonheads!
However, it's worth reminding yourselves that Blair alone, did not take us to war with Iraq. He had the almost the entire Conservative party behind him.......
.
He had the (almost) entire Conservative Party behind him because he was claiming in Parliament that Saddam Hussein's regime posed an existential threat to the UK (WMD in 45-minutes). The Conservative Parry quaintly thought that they would not be lied to in the Palace of Westminster. However, it's worth reminding yourselves that Blair alone, did not take us to war with Iraq. He had the almost the entire Conservative party behind him.......
.
Why he's so unpopular NOW? (now being the operative word.)
Because he was disingenuous. A man I feel LIED and hid behind charisma and charm. A champagne-socialist at heart (like his entire government) interested in enriching and popularising himself and staying in power, a man that loved himself, not his country.
The opposite of Thatcher who was, right or wrong, above all other things, a PATRIOT who loved her country.
