Are men afraid of transgender women?

Well as usual I'll step in as the voice of the cis gender white male hate filled s
t lord oppressor.
I'm not sure it's fear exactly.
My view on it is that they are not "transgender women" at all. They're self mutilated men putting on an act they believe to be feminine.
As this excellent article by Paul R. Mchugh says, you don't treat a psychiatric problem by crudely attempting to adapt reality to fit a misconception.
And it is a misconception. They can't know they're a woman they can only believe that they are better suited to the roles and expectations society puts on women as they perceive them from the perspective of someone who was born in a male body and treated as a male in their early life.
I find the idea of encouraging or even accommodating 5 year old children who show a desire to go down this path to be abhorrent. Nothing short of child abuse.
To go on blaming post op suicide on stigma and discrimination is a huge assumption and it seems far more likely that physical mutilation and self induced hormone imbalances would bring prove more harmful than the perceived disapproval of others of a choice you made.
From reading that article I believe that certain sections of society have a far bigger problem with accepting perfectly rational and sensible views of heterosexual males of a sound mind than they do with acknowledging people's right to undergo major surgery in order to live out something that is a mental health problem or at the very least a sexual deviance.

I wonder if it's as much a fear of strong non-male identity as it is anything physical? Are some men perhaps challenged by people who don't confirm to the old male/female roles and challenge what they perceive as their dominant role in society? Straight male consumption of heterosexual anal pornography suggests it's not purely a "eww, not natural!" reaction. I do wonder if it boils down to a fear of male influence being on the wane as minority groups increasingly find their voice in society?

This. And I'd agree with an above post, not fearful, but don't want to know. Same with these 'pride' events, I'm not interested but I don't care if someone is gay... isn't that how 'equality' is meant to be?Luke Warm said:

With transplants happening more often I wonder if we'll start seeing ads like "Full set of male genitals offered in exchange for female gentials and breasts, cash your way. Low milage and no crunches in the box when changing preferred"

ks. Their official status is female, not female-but-used-to-be-a-man.It even says female on their (edited) birth certificate.
