It was a lot like Chuggington - The mine where the crown jewels and most of the contents of the National Gallery and royal art collections were stored was Manod Quarry near Blaenau Ffestiniog, and having been one of the very few people allowed in there fairly recently to see where the material was stored I can confirm that the access is definitely horizontal. The caverns are massive, and 'houses' were built inside the caverns for the storage of the paintings to help keep the temperature constant. The paintings were transported by rail from London, and by road for the last part of the journey. It's a fascinating place to visit, but unfortunately it's never been open to the public. In the last few years access has been forbidden because active quarrying taking place on a level above the old cavern threatens to cause it to collapse completely.

That picture might make sense if the ground above the tunnel was rising sharply - accounting for the delta between the track plane and radar plane. The track plane could therefore still be horizontal. If those three objects are in a horizontal plane, they do appear to be
a) man made
b) large and train sized and end of train sized gaps between the carriages
c) in a train tunnel sized horizontal hole in the ground.
