Surely if the authorities had no problem slinging him in the slammer for a cpl of yrs for gayness then they arent going to merrily let him off for other stuff.

It's obvious to me that there is a set of posters on PH who can't wait to jump in with their odious comments as soon as someone has passed away.

Even if they are right - there eagerness to start firing on all barrels is to me almost as revealing about their nasty little personalities as the things they accuse the deceased of.
Quite.

And moreover, this was an allegation that was exposed, came to trial, and on which he was found innocent.

The whole scandal of the other allegations was that they were never exposed, and never brought to trial.

I really wish I hadn't mentioned it.

It would be better if this thread could be a celebration of the very many good things that he achieved in life, rather than being hijacked by the wailists

It's just totally depressing - especially on a site dedicated to love of the automobile.

They just couldn't wait, could they.

I used to see him getting off the train at Waterloo quite often (last few times pushed in a wheelchair and looking pretty frail).
When I was a sparky on my tools I did some work at the Motor Museum (C 1988) and saw him and Prince Michael Of Kent walking about looking at the new building, they both said good morning.

Saw him last year being wheeled round and I agree, he looked very frail, so this wasnt totally unexpected.

FYI 2/3rds of the local news report on his death was purely about his predilections.

The guy has a history, wold you deny Rolf Harris or anyone else half famous had a history, just because you shared an interest or respected their work?

I can understand you are upset because you respected him and didn't realise, but don't shoot the messengers.

Is one local news source. Im sure there are others, but I do agree with ithers here: you are being nasty , and needlessly so. Which bit are you most offended by- him being wealthy, or gay??

It's not the message, it's the eagerness of the posters. Posters like yourself.

And the fact that the 'message' is that there is no message. He was convicted of an offence conceived in the Victorian era that was considered anachronistic even at the time and he was found innocent of another offence. Counterpoising that, Edward gave nearly seventy years of public service to the UK, accomplishing an enormous amount across a broad range of socially important fields.

What have you achieved that comes even close Grim Nasty, that entitles you to make your snide insinuations?

That's where I'm confused. The authorities strung him up for being bent and they did so with compunction. He was found not guilty of buggering young uns but somehow this isn't evidence of his innocence but evidence of a coverup by the Establishment? The same one that put him in the clink for a cpl of yrs?

What did I miss?
