True it's partly just fanaticism regarding anything. However, I can't see that conservatism or libertarianism have the same sort of doctrinaire approach. Independence, self-reliance, doubt and a division of powers are very much a part of most takes on these more 'right' leaning view points and it seems perfectly normal to have disagreement between conservatives.

Exactly. What's more we don't see intolerance in the public behaviour of conservative libertarians, yet somehow the average lefty-on-the-go can't avoid foul language, criminal damage and as per Manchester, assault by spittle.

It was also fun as well as a revelation reading about Corbynites shouting 'Tory!' as an insult at lifelong Labour supporters who realise their new leader is an embarrassing anachronistic dead duck.

Another thing about PistonHeads is that it's a great place for spotting people who don't know the difference between primary and secondary sources, pretty much every time they're standing left-field.
I cant speak for anyone else but I certainly appreciate the difference. But I'm just not very accepting of newspapers or sites that just select a load of stories that follow their doctrine. Perhaps that's why I'm a lefty on PH - I just don't want a read a load of stuff that supports my existing views. That's boring and doesn't make me think.

You're unusual - the Left is clearly more tribal in its adherence to Labour after abysmal failures in office since and including the 70s.

The idea of primary and secondary sources doesn't equate to accepting views similar to yours or mine. Where people have a problem with an article or a series, and the content is from a reasonably credible primary source (ONS, OBR) and appears in other media, the idea of somehow having a go at one newspaper for covering it is silly.

You're probably not like other lefties in your higher than average tolerance level for others' views; as shown throughout this thread the general level of lefty intolerance - in total not isolated illustrations - is reprehensible.

Given the reaction to last nights vote on extending air strikes over a non existent border, with Corbyn supporters barracking labour MP`s homes and sending hate messages to those who voted for the extension of air strikes, the answer to the original question would appear to be an emphatic yes.

It covers lack of tolerance of others' views- the left-wing angle isn't proven one way or the other, though.

The girlfriend didn't like what the old man was saying about male/female tennis players pay.

Highly likely that he was saying that the market should decide the pay and the girl (and boyfriend) are egalitarians.

Incitement to violence would seem the appropriate charge.

I don't think it takes a giant leap of the intellect to reason that it is very unlikely that the woman involved was upset about the old fellow talking loudly about "it being only fair that the ladies tennis players get the same pay as the men", do you?

On The Big Questions on BBC 1 on Sunday one of the topics of discussion was does social media reveal men's hatred for women?.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYh7uq-hzhY

The self-righteous feminists were shouting down anyone they didn't agree with and tried their best to stifle the debate.

I totally agree, but would still point out that it's a presumption rather than a fact.

True, but in the balance of probability, the lady in question is a bunny boiling feminascist loon smile, and the bloke has been captured by his own cock and self delusion.

This came up on my newsfeed posted by a very vocal Corbyn supporter:

"That's better. Not a well loved musician. A thoroughly odious tory. Or...tory. Same thing really."

This is quite normal for any weak-kneed of the spineless socialists, they never enter a discussion (because they'd usually lose) they just shout and scream and/or cast aspersions if you don't happen to agree with their mostly odious views.
OK I'm using a big stick here, but you know what I mean

Some might say that there's a district display of precisely that behaviour on this very thread.
