His message is quite lecherous but surely her "half yor age" comment is as ageist as his message was sexist?

Clearly exactly the same as a random adding you on LinkedIn and messaging you about how nice you look.
It was her who added him, he then replied.

The uncharitable in me thinks if you don't want to get a broad range of responses varying from the professional to the criminal and everything in between you maybe shouldn't be randomly adding people on social media, lawyers or no lawyers.

What this highlights to me is just how careful you need to be online with this type of mentalist itching for a reason to flame you. How many hours between the reply and the Daily Mail? The speed of this stuff is frightening, but that said something else will be along in 3, 2, 1...

Militant feminism is often just as damaging as male misogyny, but you can't let that stand in the way of the fact that HE was in the wrong. Yeah she's probably a bit nuts to take it to the extreme, but women face this every day. Could be the straw that broke the camels back. Just as black people face subtler forms of racism every day, gay people suffer subtle forms of homophobia every day... It's the little things that add up to reinforce the fact that White Male's hold dominance (and very often prejudice) over absolutely everyone.
Risible, apologist drivel. Defending her reaction to one man's comment because women generally 'face this every day' is absurd.

How do you live under the burden of your liberal, vicarious - vicarious! - guilt? It sounds consuming.

Imo, if you put a photo online into the public domain then all bets are off be you man, woman or goat.

According to the DM story, he received a request from her to link up and responded with his message. I think he's been a bit foolish (unless it was the opening gambit in what he hoped might be some flirting) but it appears that he was commenting on the picture, which is clearly professionally-taken. I wonder what that other HR lawyer and now Hollywood arm candy, Amal Clooney would make of this. She seems to have capitalized on her beauty, fashion sense and the DM's objectification of her appearance.

An old colleague of mine, now in a sales management role, had professional photos taken that she used for her Linked In profile. It generated a raft of comments from her contacts on how good the photo was and how good she looked in it. She did not take offence, thanking them and admitting that she had had the pics taken by a professional photographer.

She's a human rights brief, currently studying FGM.

He cannot seriously have thought she'd giggle coyly and blush in girlish excitement?

I'd love to know what her response would be had he been a 30 year old "powerfully built director" of his own law firm?

Fair point and my mistake.

I still think it's stupidity followed by a over-reaction tbh.

You do sound particularly enlightened, it must be said.

Decrying white male privilege and the grinding abuse of women and minorities in society, while simultaneously using the word 'retard' to describe somebody.

Fair play to her, I like her style - mental. I'll be forever attracted to women like this but ironically forever be unable to express my attraction for fear of a good tongue lashing, which is ironic as that's what turns me on the most.

/Off to find he linked in profile...

Haha. Good point well made.

  • I did say I'm likely as guilty as anyone.

It's deeply ironic that a self-loathing "check your privilege"-ista would use a word like "retard" to describe someone they are disagreeing with. While you're trying to right all the wrongs of the world by castrating yourself, are disabled people not worthy of your martyrdom? Good grief.

Why has she mentioned his age? What has that got to do with anything? So sexism is bad but ageism is OK?

One all.

Joking aside I think that HewmanHeMan has a valid point but has taken the classic bait of 'it's all your fault WASP Male'. Everyone needs to realise that we are all victims. And get over it if the impact is negligible.

The way I look at it is that it is like a physical injury. The more serious the harm the further you need to go to deal with it. In this case we're not even at paper cut level, until she chose to publish it to a wider audience. Now that lucky young lady has iro 1m+ men objectifying her. Way to go girl!

PS - So wrapped up in my male little World, I forgot to add that there are also now likely 1,000's of ladies looking at her pictures and thinking they'd like a piece of that action.

He's a post middle aged, upper middle class, senior lawyer with a hyphenated surname, probably drives an Audi - he's used to people pretending to be nice to him, probably has no idea what a fkwit he really is.

She shouldn't have posted such a diatribe, but absolutely he should not have sent the message in the first place.

It's clear he intended it as she took it by the fact he preceded his comment with "this is probably horrendously politically incorrect but...". You wouldn't say that if you were commenting on the professionalism of the photo.

He got caught out leering after a much younger woman on LinkedIn of all places. Like I said she has overreacted a bit but he did rather ask for trouble I'm afraid.

No, but she could just have accepted a compliment and moved on to something more important. Some work for example.

I'm not a Cambridge educated lawyer, but to me she sounds like the sort of fking idiot who does more harm than good for the feminist cause.

She's an over-reacting, self-important junior, but he is an idiot. Everyone knows these days that you cannot send such a message unless you know for a fact that the recipient will welcome it.

You really are an absolute cretin, Matt.

How you have the time to post this uninformed nonsense while presumably busy putting the finishing touches to your utopian 0% tax below £100k and 100% tax above £100k regime is beyond me.
