Just looking at the video and trying to work out how far into the tunnel she actually was. I think she's just in front of the manhole cover:

So maybe not quite as far forward as the car in this?

Worrying that you are struggling with the notion of what I posted, tbh.
I'm not "struggling" thanks. You're being quite condescending if you don't mind me saying so. Perhaps you could have a think about the tone of your posting.

s3fella said:
What is he meant to do if he arrived at his side of the tunnel and it was clear with no one waiting.........he is allowed to proceed. If she then appears perhaps going much faster and he is already in the tunnel, she has to wait for him.

Who knows what happened, but it is clear that he is a lot further through the tunnel than she is, and is hardly some boy racer. So I suspect he got to his give way line some time before she got to her priority sign.

All this is supposition. All we know for sure is that the traffic coming from her side has priority.

s3fella said:
Regardless, guy was struggling and was some old boy. Maybe he shouldn't be on the roads, but he is, she should show him a bit of respect.
In my eyes one earns respect by ones actions, it shouldn't just be afforded automatically either because he's a man or because he's old.

If he's incapable of driving his car, as it appears from his abysmal attempt at reversing when he heads straight for the tunnel wall then he ought to have the constitution to give up his licence.

s3fella said:
He appears to be the only one to make ANY effort to sort the situation and is struggling. She is an ignorant , ignoring the people asking her nicely to reverse, what, 5 metres.
We can all see that.
Both of them appear to be in a similar situation, apart from the fact that she has the priority. Why you describe her as a "" but defer to him as an "old boy" is not clear to me, unless maybe you have a dislike of women in general.

s3fella said:
It's not great having to share the roads with either of them, but I'd rather some old git be bumbling about that a stuck up bh like that that blocks the road for 45 minutes and ignores everyone asking her to move.
We'll have to disagree on this point. Of the two of them he's the only one of which we have any evidence of incompetence. I'd prefer to share the roads with competent drivers regardless of whether I like them personally.
So sorry about the perceived 'tone', I can't help how you read my typing, so I'd suggest the problem lies with you.

He may have some evidence of incompetence in driving as he is the only one who tries to fking drive! She demonstrates no driving abilities at all, no 'humane' abilities either. In fact she only displays an ability to be arrogant and ignorant of the time, convenience and requests of others.

For all we know this poor old sold fought in the war, the nearest thing she's been to war is New Year sales, I'd wager.

She had the right of way.
There's no concept of "right of way" in British traffic law. A right of way implies you can just barge through and fk everybody, which you cannot.
Yep the highway code makes that explicitly clear at the start of the "General rules, techniques and advice for all drivers and riders" section

"This section should be read by all drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders. The rules in The Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give way to others. Always give way if it can help to avoid an incident."

If that is right, she should be strung up for war crimes or something. Bloody hell what a witless bh.

Come to think of it, I often meet people who are utter incapable of, or unwilling to reverse, and make this clear.

I often wonder what happens when they meet someone the same.

Now we know.

I'm going to stick with my suspicion that she couldn't reverse either. It's a common theme with school run vehicles where I live.
Stop agreeing with me Zod; it's becoming somewhat disconcerting.

IF he's really that bad at driving I'd have thought his car would have had dents and bump damage all over!

I have no idea really, but my take is, as the guy who spoke with him said, he became a total bag of nerves up against that arrogant b....

Look at the tunnel again. They guy's car is in the 'dark' area (ie well inside), while she has the sun shining on her hair and back. She's hardly inside the tunnel. He 'may' have been an incompetent driver but sure as hell, with all the others asking 'her' to back up, it's 'her' who is the real problem here. All imo, of course.

It has to be said she doesn't come out of it well.

Even if she was initially in the right (and I'm not sure she was) - the poor bloke is almost incapacitated, and is not it seems being in any way aggressive or argumentative - just bewildered.

You would have to be quite some cold hard piece of work to not see that and see that reversing yourself is clearly the simplest thing to do for EVERYONE - including HERSELF.

"Katie Hopkins" level of vile would be my guess.

Old bloke I just feel sorry for, shouldn't have a licence going by that. Just a bit sad, not malicious.

FWIW I agree entirely... looks to me like he was already 2/3rds of the way through (probably going slowly also) so she should have stopped.
That's assuming she didn't just anchor up when he failed to stop at the give way, after which he drove up to her.

I'm guessing he had absolutely no idea what the issue was.

She needs a better attitude, and he needs a bus pass.
Point taken,,,, I did once own a Hillman Imp with no reverse - Mrs A was not happy opening door and pushing backwards with legs.
Long time ago I was really into Imps. I bought one Imp once with no reverse. Flexible gear linkage buckling making it difficult or impossible to get reverse. Bought the car for peanuts as the owner (hope it wasn't you!) thought it was expensive box trouble. Drove a few hundred yards down the road, parked up and jacked the rear. Took out my 2 inch piece of copper pipe cut down the middle, put either side of the flex shaft, couple jub. clips to hold in place, tighten up ...hey presto, reverse no problem! Home, put on new flex shaft and sold car at a nice tidy profit. wink Pays to know your marques.

Having spent about 20 hrs with wet Nd ry / oil / bit of wood rubbing down the head which had warped due to no antifreeze the head warped again after a few days...so I sold it to some mug that only picked up on the reverse gear problem... wasn't you was it? wink

ps it had a black stripe running over the bomnnet / roof / and a black cat on tyhe boot.

I'm with s3fella. Very likely that old boy had already entered tunnel before bh turned up IMHO.

The woman is 100% to blame. It's staggering that anyone can think otherwise. A lot of the people on this forum are clearly bad ignorant drivers just like the woman.
The bloke had entered the tunnel. She should then wait. Shes probably the sort of hatefull woman who shouts at the staff in Waitrose because they don't have her favorite brand of natural youghurt in stock. Urgh, I don't know her, but I despise her.

Ooh I can play this judgmental game, I bet she is the sort of local who wants a WM postcode not a SL one because it lowers the value of her house.
