Wait for the whole freehold/ground rent scandal to blow up. Big things brewing about all the major homebuilders flogging off the freeholds to Willy Astors off shore companies in Gurnsey. This is happening before the freehold is offered to the actual home owner.
The consumers are the ones who are to blame.

They should walk away, but they're so desperate to buy into the surging market, driven by their very fervour to buy anything at any cost, they clearly ignore their best judgement.

Now I'd prefer them all to suffer for their stupidity. But no doubt they'll all be saved by compensations like the whole PPI thing.

I'm sure CMD said he'd reward hard workers and savers, but that was another lie. They've all been dry shafted while the idiots without brains get protected.
No, they are not to blame. This really is a mis-selling scandal, but it is very contained.

In terms of 200,000 homes at 20% below market value, you have to ask which fkwit thought that was a good idea - at the very least who gets chosen to make a free 20% must have occurred to someone...

Didn't read the whole thread but those freeholds are a nightmare. Took ages to get ours and cost a fortune. Then again, it was my first property in the UK and I didn't understand much about it at the time.

Wouldn't say the consumers are to blame Mr Whippy. When the builders, conveyancers, estate agents and surveyors are all in it together.

Little bit worrying? Maybe some conflicts of interest going on.

I think aunty Theresa is getting rid of everything Cameron did and all his cronies. Except Brexit of course.
As a civil servant of 33 years experience my view is that the current government is getting rid of everything that might be a little bit difficult or upset anyone. We have the most nervous government for decades.
Competent or not ? Im very curious
Who? Me or the Government? biggrin I'm mediocre. I have no particular view to give on the competency of the Government, especially as it would just be seen as personal bias. And even though nobody here knows who I am it would still be unprofessional and unseemly. But the slowness of decision making and the fear of the media is noticeable. I hear "what would the Daily Mail say?" as a joke at work quite often. But it's sort of not a joke.

I have no axe to grind, but lease-advice.org has, in my experience, sensible and objective advice.

I met Roger Southam at conference once, and he seemed a decent bloke. Not sure I would prefer an untrained journalist for such specialist advice.
