I care. I see britain as predominately a white christian land with the history that made us the way we are. All those wars and battles along with conquests and losses. I have friends from other cultures but feel we should keep our national identity. Sure there will always be some migration, that's normal but I don't want to be swamped and outbred by stealth. Heck, we can't fight that.

Why does the colour matter?

Both of my parents were from overseas yet as I am white I am presumably more welcome than my black neighbour who was also born in Britain?

I'm a son of immigration, I'm also British. Colour and religion are not the defining qualities that make Britain Great.

I also have five kids but don't feel intimidated by our rabbit like shagging ability, although they're white and baptised so they are quite stealthy to the ignorant....

Our history and what made us what wee are is migration, invasion, assimilation. And Christianity is a foreign religion imported into this country from the Middle East, that overwhelmed our traditional pagan faiths.

They weren't white and technically they may not be British either.....

I couldn't care less what colour somebody's skin is. The important thing is cultural values, one of which is that we shouldn't care what colour somebody's skin is.

The British are like this:

A random basket of mongrels. But these dogs will probably live longer than a lot of pedigree breeds since most of the stupid bred-in characteristics are recessive. Mixing of culture makes everyone better in the same way.

I'm non-white but as British as they come. My parents came over here in the 60s and my dad would support England in the World Cup etc. He was buried in this country rather than "back home".
In the village I grew up in a family of Asian descent who ran the local costcutter/spar/whatever shop had broader Yorkshire accents than anyone else I knew who was "indigenous" to the area, the farther in particular (in his fourties at the time) was fking murder to understand, he sounded like my very white and English granddad who was in his late sixties hehe

I think that the thrust of most of the replies in this thread is, that if you identify as British then your colour is inconsequential; green might be of interest, but unlikely to be the subject of much prejudice e'enso.

Seem to recall an episode of Open All Hours with an Asian shop keeper coming into Arkwright's shop and speaking like that.

Couldn't say, perhaps a bit before my time (I'm 27), this chap was balls to the wall Yorkshire though, his accent wouldn't be out of place in Last Of The Summer Wine (filmed about six miles up the road, by the by).

Decent chap too - used to do paper rounds for them as a kid and he got on with my grand folks very well so he was pretty cool to me, a family friend of sorts. I used to get sweets, fizzy juice ETC on the cheap whilst I did the paper rounds for 'em, plus his wife would sort my papers ETC of a weekend morning and mark them all up for me which made life easier, biggrin

I'm confused. If it is down to your parents passports, how come both my parents are British as their Parents weren't. Does that make me not British (being 2nd generation and all).

Actually, I'm white, so I suspect I would pass muster, even though my family has been here a shorter time than a lot of those who are not white.

It's all down to how your mother describes you to the midwife when you are born.

You might want to see the doctor about the persistent wet nose thing.
