I also assume he is actually Irish. If so it is worrying you can now sue someone for calling you your nationality followed by a rude word.

Back to the incident, Clarkson was obviously in the wrong but what sort of man goes to the hospital with a split lip...Seriously FFS.
I agree.

Funny this has come to light within a month or two of the new TV deal being announced......
How many times has a punch up ended up with a warning / caution?

They're grown men, Oisin needs to grow up and move past it. He's not feeling any pain or torment from the situation at all.

CHA CHING.

He's sat on this for a while.

Did he ever press charges for assualt? I thought he said he didn't want to to do that?

So he's not wanting a criminal conviction, just financial compensation?
He worked ontop gear. As a direct result of someones physical actions against him, the programme he works for has been cancelled and he isnt working, therefore not earning??? The bbc doesnt have any other motoring tv shows he could work on

Good Jabberwocking, but I suggest that the usage is fair, as the term has come to be used to convey several meanings. It is not literally a device for carrying cloaks around in.

The BBC are saying The case centres on "verbal abuse" that accompanied a physical attack during which Clarkson struck Tymon in March.

Acas outlines Bullying and Harassment:

Examples of bullying / harassing behaviour could include:

spreading malicious rumours, or insulting someone
exclusion or victimisation
unfair treatment
deliberately undermining a competent worker by constant criticism

It will be interesting to see the outcome

On the other hand, he faced such a torrent of abuse on his character by people who seemingly feel Clarkson can do no wrong. His name was plastered all over the papers/news and he was vilified. He will forever be associated with 'THE Clarkson Scandal'. It's not exactly a good thing to have on your record.

Personally I think he deserves a pretty big pay-off from Clarkson. He kept quiet and didn't make much of a fuss at the time. He let it blow over and gave Clarkson the luxury of finding new work without the looming presence of a court case that could genuinely have lead to a criminal conviction. Amazon and other potential employers would then would have had a much trickier PR situation on their hands that could ultimately have lead to Clarkson failing to get a deal at all so quickly let alone something so lucrative.

If Clarkson has any sense (in my humble opinion) he will offer the producer a pretty hefty sum to settle immediately out of court.

Top Gear hasn't been cancelled. At least one new series is being planned. Can't he work on that?

Either way, I doubt that he was punched because he's Irish. Clarkson blamed a man who is Irish, not because he's Irish.

Given the guy was not a star, had had no time in the spotlight at all and was suddenly the target of a endless vitriol from hundreds of thousands of 'fans' online for something that was far from his fault, it really isn't that odd that he'd be suffering with some kind of psychological trauma.

He was pinned as the guy who took down the BBCs most popular show and faced such unbelievable levels hate. It was insane. If I were in BBC management I would have enforced time off and counselling for the guy. This is in my opinion likely to be what actually has happened. Aside from the help it will give him, it also goes some way to removing the burden of future psychological issues the guy may face down the line from the BBC.

This is not about his split lip!!

No. Sorry. I'm with matrignano on this one.

Portmanteau is modernly used to describe where two words are joined together to form one new word, like labradoodle, from Labrador Retriever and Poodle.

'Race discrimination is an (inaccurate) portmanteau term ' makes no sense... unless I'm missing something.

I agree with you. This is the side I'm on.

The race thing is also not that relevant.

Really? Is his name not tarnished and this is what he be famous for for most of his days. I can imagine any stranger who hears his name and makes the connection will have a snigger to themselves leaving him self concious.

Just countering your point that he can get on with his life with no bother / lasting impact

Off sick, he got punched by Clarkson, an out of shape, 50 odd year old, chain smoking Rose Wine drinker, not Floyd Mayweather ffs.

I am not "hard", but neither am I a soft touch, I would like to think if he had punched me, I would not care who it was but I would have smacked him one back, then I would go back to work, the following day, with a tale to tell.
