People like 'midenginedcoupe' label themselves as left wing because it's a way of appearing intelligent and compassionate, and 'right on' . They probably think most of the public are knuckle draggers, when the reality is very grey, not black and white. Very specific questions are batted aside, it's just about being seen as a 'good person'.
What generally happens is that people post things contrary to the majority PH view (at least the views on NP&E) and are then labelled as left-wingers. I've only ever voted Tory but I'm considered to be one of the biggest lefties on here.
As a liberal left winger I'm entertained by the what is obviously a mainly right wing bunch of people on here up in arms against what is at its core a right wing social ideology in ISIS but blaming the left for allowing it to exist.

Are there not enough anti-muslim threads here already. I know that the latest atrocity is a good excuse to spout the usual xenophobic (see, I can spell it correctly) and offensive nonsense, but surely this sort of st can be posted on one of the existing threads.

P.s. I like your use of 'we' to infer that you speak for the entire Western world. Your use of 'enlightened' to infer that somehow anybody who might disagree with you is stupid or just needs to see the truth. Finlly, your pejorative use of the term leftie.

This is a 4/10 on the Nick Griffin scale of bks. It's a lazy rehash of previous rants.
PH warned that it was monitoring the Paris thread. That cut out the very worst, but this thread is still just being used as an excuse to air anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim prejudice. PH moderation is toothless. What do Haymarket and the moderators think the rest of the web thinks of PH? Threads like this damage the reputation of PH.

The irony is all the greater as the destabilisation of the region that has assisted in the rise of ISIS stemmed from an ill planned project of the American Neo Cons.

Exactly the same for me. Anyone who doesn't dislike muslims must be left wing. What is the logic there?
In the meantime I am sitting hear feeling angry because I think Conservatives have become far too left wing since they were elected, whilst at the same time being accused of being a communist every two minutes because I'm not terrified of muslims.
You might get called left wing when being an a discussion about what should be done, the extent of a threat or the level of the problem etc if people feel you're being particularly weak of gullible. You and anyone else is not called it for saying you don't dislike all Muslims or that you are not terrified by Muslims. Once again you go totally OTT in your analogy to try and prove a point to where it's totally false.
Nothing OTT at all. ANybody who does not agree with the majority is labelled a 'lefty' for the most tenuous of reasons. You can pretend it doesn't happen in anything other than very specific circumstances but anyone else can see for themselves how obvious it is. I would trawl through the other thread and get you 50 quotes proving this but I know nothing would ever stop you trying to have the last word hence there is no point.
Feel free to now have the last word.

Nice dodge, but not quite. People who say they aren't scared of Muslims aren't called left wing and neither are those who say they don't hate all Muslims. You failed to grasp the point you maybe called it if you adopt a stance within a debate were the other persons perceives you as weak or gullible, or Corbyn-like as its now known, I would agree that happens a lot. Example being immigration and being perhaps pro EU no limits no restrictions no checks. What you claimed those is complete crap and a total exaggeration.
I've never read here ( not that I've read every single post on PH ) anyone saying they don't fear Muslims with a response of someone calling them left wing solely on that basis.

Personally - and if anyone wants to call me "apologist" they might first want to read some of my thoughts on other threads - I think enough is enough.

The issue may be the defining one of our times, but there is other news and there are other threads taking on the subject.

The intensity and scope of this violence is unique to Islam. The Westboro Baptist Church may be repugnant but I don't feel they're very likely to hijack a plane or slaughter innocent civilians on the scale we saw in Paris. And London. And New York. And Mombassa. And Beirut. And so on. Nor do they have an extensive history of radical Christian conquest to lend ideological support to their cause.

I'm not opposed to making the state more secular, but I really don't think having an established church in England is in any way a cause or contributory factor to radical Islam.

The irony that this brand of supposedly rational humanism seems to neglect is how deeply rooted it is in Judeo-Christian culture, and more specifically the protestant notions of individual conscience, and the way in which the reformation made this division between religion and state possible.

This. NP&E has become a place for a minority to circle-jerk their nasty opinions, safe in the knowledge that (a) the moderators won't control them and (b) they can easily shout down any opposition.

It's an odd place where the last few 'leftie' posters remaining here are acknowledged centrist Tories.
