And still no one mentions his problems can be caused by creatine/steroid abuse! Not saying they were, just what are the odds?

Sorry this isn't the thread for that post.

The thought did cross my mind but I don't think this thread is the correct time or place. Leave it for a few weeks and maybe try again when the sadness is reduced.

I'm not a rugby fan at all but I always watched when he was playing. I was genuinely gutted when I heard the news. The man was the true meaning of a legend, a real game changer. He was a beast! He will be missed. RIP big man. As I saw on Facebook earlier, "the game upstairs just got a whole lot tougher".
I'm a rugby fan and have been since professionalism.

He changed the sport quite fundamentally. He wasn't alone but he was in the lead. Awe-inspiring to watch. I didn't meet him but I know a few who have and they all say what a pleasant bloke he was, self-effacing, modest and willing to talk. I know what the subject of conversation will be at my club on Saturday.

Really shocked by this news. I reached the age where rugby (and sport in general) came on the radar in the mid-to-late 90s and just remember being awestruck at this human wrecking ball that possessed so much grace.

I often think his power and brute take the plaudits when I just remember how incredible his balance was to take those hits and still remain standing - for 99% of big blokes an arm stuck out in front of your shin will still bring you down.

Not Jonah.

RIP and best wishes to his poor family.

i would have said it is exactly the thread for that post. a terrible waste of one of, if not the most talented sportsmen there has ever been. apparently he was still using creatine post kidney transplant according to this article http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/jonah-lomu-rugby-s...

and as mentioned on the other JL thread steroids are used for people who have transplants as part of their rehab programme...

This to me is fantastic. They did the big man proud here.

Kids from Lomu's former school pay tribute with a hakka.

Read his obit in the paper yesterday - not a whiff of any substance abuse.

Watching those highlights it's amazing how much has changed in 20 years - the tackling! And there's the big man romping over the line without any need of a swan dive...very classy.

There is even talk that at his peak he wasn't near 100% fitness.

Legend is the appropriate term. We don't see many, but I think he's cert.

I put him at the very highest level of sportmen those who transcend their sport. doing what he did whilst privately dealing with his illness is a measure of the man. I am not a massive Rugby fan but when you see someone so obviously "special" then you just feel compelled to watch them perform.
