Another reason to leave the EU:-

Wouldn't it be nice if we were free to negotiate a trade deal with the rapidly growing Commonwealty rather than being trapped in the stagnating EU.

Not sure where you read that but the EU transactional tax will be based on the jurisdiction of the traded securities not the jurisdiction of the trading entity. The EU finance ministries are still talking about capturing derivatives but they have no idea how that works.

So moving to the UK will not avoid the EU transactional tax. Just as UK institutions currently pay the French transactional tax and French institutions pay the UK transactional tax.

smile Obviously in the case of Brexit there won't be an EU transaction tax, its only rationale is to cream off more from the UK.
The EU transactional tax will only apply to securities issued in 9/10 (I forget how many) countries. So it will go ahead.

The UK already has its own transactional tax called SDRT.

If you haven't seen it yet, watch Brexit: The Movie.

Almost a million people have watched it in the past week.

Last Whites of the East End (London).

Doc on the dwindling white working-class community of London's East End.

I was all for "Stay In" and then watched this last night... Eye opening stuff, I'm not so sure now.

My gut feeling is that Eu needs us more than we need them. My pension fund says preserve the status quo. Whatever you want, I suppose...

If you're referring to 'Last Whites in the East End' ... NO!

Quite an eye-opener. Long term Asian family immigrants - one 5th generation - whose kids all go to the local school... looks very concerned and says ...'I'm happy with my kids mixing, ...but worried my children are no longer being taught in the 'British' way.'

I wouldn't say that's just your gut feeling...it's quite conclusive.

However, my gut feeling is that we won't always be in this position and it'd be easier for us to leave in the future than it would be to re-join if the gamble didn't work out. I'm still on the fence though...but it seems like most people I know are voting out and those who are do so with much more conviction than the in supporters I am friends with.

It's fascinating, that's for sure.

For me it's about three things. Will the failing EU continue dragging the UK down, do EU tariffs benefit or hinder us, and do we want to further relinquish our right to set our own laws? If I ignore my own (short term) preferences, what would be best for my children? Paying for the socialist EU lifestyle or encouraging UK independence and innovation?

Living in Finland Brexit has only been seen as a inner political issue here. It pops up on the news as much as Trumps does in the UK.
The Finnish government has asked all British citizens to register with the ministry of immigration before 29/3/2019. If you have not paid your €54 and registered with your passport then you will have 90 days to leave. This appeases our right wingers and unless you have a criminal record you can stay until 29/12/2020 when they believe a deal will be done
If Britain wants to leave the EU, we are fine with that no one is stopping you.
If Britain wants to have another democratic election to come back, we are fine with that too.
If Britain wants to act or change something on how it manages itself no problem.
But we have been clear from the start about what we want from this, not just Finland but all the other 26 countries. This isn't Brussels guiding us as we have a direct dialogue with Britain and why should we dictate what happens within Britain as much as you don't tell us how to manage ourselves.

Work wise everybody is doing great, I read that many within the UK believe that Europe is in a slump. But over the past 2 years things have really taken off. Lots of contracts have been signed and from a Scandinavian perspective Brexit has been a positive economically as Brussels has been shaken up to be leaner and nicer to us, there have also been alot of consolidation of long term projects globally as we speak English too.
Unfortunatly over the past 2 years there has also been alot of communication within my own company and others within Europe and abroad over subsitutes for British companies or services. A British company either doesn't know what tarrifs it will be operating on or what is happening next year and is out of the mix, meanwhile an alternative Italian or Danish company has said they can provide products to us that would have come from British companies. This has been reflected in other industries within Scandinavia as the more Britain dithers and says it hates Europeans/foriegners it makes a better case for us.

I know everyone is dug in over Brexit in the UK but what is actually happening on the ground? Has your own company changed?
