Maybe it is about time people woke up to the reality, the UK is a fat nation where it has become social acceptable.

I do not condone what the 'man' who handed the lady this card did, but at what point is the trigger that makes you do something about your size?

I would love to not see them, but to be frank you can't really miss them. It's about having some self respect, social standards and general tact; part of the reason why I left the self-indulgent, selfish country that is the UK.

Maybe they need to consider what is appropriate dress and this extends to anyone, fat or thin.

He was not asthmatic, he was so fat he could not even tuck a shirt in.

It is a lifestyle choice, people choose to be fat, people choose to smoke, people choose to drink; smoking and drinking are restricted by age and by location (outside / not in the street for example), yet nothing for obesity.

Here in Germany I cannot remember when I last saw an extremely fat person.
I'm sure the people know they are "fat" (if they are fat enough to be classed as fat, and not a size 14!)
Certainly we should not be pressured into things by BULLYING (which is exactly what the card people are doing is) or insulting.

I repeat myself as to what I said before, people are able (rightly or wrongly) to wear what they want. This is not to please you.

You can't make it "illegal" to be fat because what constitutes fat, what about IF they do have a medical problem
What IF they have mental issues and their get outs are eating?

Glad you are so happy in Germany. Don't think we want bigoted people in the UK.
The poor fat people, it is never their fault, you can always blame someone else - its pathetic, get a grip and take some responsibility for your cookie stealing antics.

Bigoted, that's a strong term, I am hardly running around with a white sheet, red armband yelling homophobic slurs am I ... they are medically FAT this results in medical problems, lose weight and you are no longer fat, simple.

Seriously though;
I think there is a level of perception here too, I consider 14 to be 'fat', BUT in my family you would be noticeably larger than anyone else if you were this size, same with the men if you were over a 34/36 waist.

Well he has muscle weight and fat weight but his cardio is probably insane compared to your average person so I'm not sure you could call him unhealthy.
ignoring his moobs... are you arguing that invoking him was even less relevant than to begin with? wink

If I buy a size 18 garment and sew a size 10 label into it, does that make me a size 10? Manufacturers can put whatever they like into a clothing label to appease people that they are smaller than they are - it's not a good measure of whether someone is fat or not!

Not really, people go on about "cardio" in combat sports and having a good aerobic system is important but more important in combat sports is the training on remembering how and when to breath and being in control of the adrenaline response (which a lot of them basically get from either being physchos or a complete desensitisation to the danger of severe violence). I doubt mark hunt is much fitter than your average club runner, club level swimmer, club cyclist or semi pro footballer if tested properly in a vo2 max way, he's certainly fitter than your average 5ft 10 18 stone guy but that's no measure of fitness is it?

I'm not totally convinced this actually happened - no description of the person who handed the card to her, no other people coming forward on this for example. The details are incredibly vague and non-descript that it makes me a little cynical about it.
If it did happen, then it is truly low, but I have a suspicion that this could be another publicity stunt.
Remember the woman in Primark having her baby snatched while she breastfed? Caroline Starmer, I think? It's not beyond the realms of possibility that this is just another similar, unthinking, self-absorbed, attention magnet.
Ahh yes probably this, click bait designed to trigger page traffic from angry chubbs and indignant types (so 90%).

I agree. Is it any different to saying 'smoking that will kill you!'? There are adverts all over the place for that and none for eating yourself into an early grave.

Im a tad overweight (working on it slowly!) and I dont think there is enough stigma attached to it. I should be ashamed every second. I wish people shouted 'FATTY!' at me walkign down the street. It would kick my willpower into overdrive.

6ft 5 and 13 stone is very very light indeed.

I'm the same height but I simply couldn't be that weight even if i were extremely unwell.

Are you sure you tip the scales at that BrabusMog?
Im 6ft 3 and struggle to brake 12 stone. The minute I drop my guard (with food or training) down I go. I can go on a 2 week holiday to the states and come back lighter. No problem.

As long as she intruduces herself as an "ex-rugby player" it's OK.

And the woman in question, I was expecting her to be morbidly obese. Was pretty surprised that she looks average

Oh FFS the girl's fat. Not thin or merely plump. Fat.

She's like that because she's greedy and doesn't exercise enough.

It's very rude to tell her this though.
More or less sums up the story. She is clearly very fat and I might think more or less what the card said but I wouldn't say it as I'm not that much of a tosser.

Well since we're talking about body fashion and body facism...

There is nothing healthy about carrying 4 stone of excess muscle or having very low body fat like you see on Rugby fields, in combat sports or on the front of mens health magazine... I'm no women, but on the whole you might find it's not particularly desirable, sexually, either outside of a particular taste or fetish. What chicks want is blokes like me - or me to be more precise.

All excess (it appears to me) is unhealthy either physically or mentally.
Being built up might not be as good for your life expectancy as being a skinny endurance athlete but it's still a damn sight better than being a lardball and frankly I don't want to be a skinny jogger/cyclist etc. As for whether it's attractive, my experiences suggest that females like a reasonable build (i.e. more than completely untrained) but a long way short of a bodybuilder physique. The guys who bodybuild seriously don't do it for female attention though.

wrong - I'm fat for a reason. I eat too fking much plain and simple. I don't need some dhead to hand me a card on the tube telling me what is blatantly obvious.

One of the issues with the height/weight charts is that they are not always representative. At 5'9" I should apparently be about 10 stone - I passed that mark aged 14 and up until about 30 was about 12/13 stone which according to the charts is (borderline) obese yet I played rugby every weekend and during to summer did athletics and had a waist of about 30/32. I know at this point I need to lose however the willpower is currently (very) weak, a few years ago I made a concerted effort to shift some flab and was doing well however despite a year of this I still hated every second at the gym (guess what some people never get to enjoy it) and when my life changed the gym went with it. I'm now 50 and need to start doing something again for my own good I will do it (I'll hate every second of it) but as you get older it does get harder to shift... meh, that's life. At least I'm not a judgemental idiot who hands out rude cards to people fatter than me (and there are some) and skinny people. Live and let live, above all don't be a dick

While it is true that what is considered the most attractive body shape has varied somewhat over the centuries it hasn't varied by THAT much.

Go back two centuries and the classical ideal was a more rounded body shape but still with a fairly slim waist and girls of that era used to seek artificial help to reduce their waist sizes via corsets.

What you are talking about therefore is a more rounded, size 12 say, shape not Weebles .
uh...? Look at Rubens' paintings, these were the "hot chicks" of the day. Compare them the typical PH supermodel porn star trophy wifes' and it is a considerable difference.

Even "hot chicks" 40 years ago were completely different body shapes to what the shallow PH males see as "normal" now.
And as for body hair, our PH Adonis' would definitely st their pants had they been near a "hot chick" 20 or 30 years ago.

What is so sad about all this story is that one woman was just shocked by it, (proabably as she is happy as she is and just thinks the Hipster guy was a tt) whilst the other story is of a lady that started crying. The lady that started crying, possibly isn't "happy" being how she is, but it is not for anyone on here or anywhere else to treat her like that. She may just eat a lot, she may not exercise, but she may also be hugely depressed by her situation, which itself can lead to poor habits and weight gain.

It is an issue, and a serious one, we all appreciate that. But just who the fk do these people (and some one here, sadly) think they are to behave like they did / have toward someone doing no one any harm, going about their day?
How do you really think this woman felt for the rest of the day or week....? For doing what, sitting on the tube minding her own business. It' a fking disgraceful situation, and one that in no way at all should be defended by anyone.
