I agree. Is it any different to saying 'smoking that will kill you!'? There are adverts all over the place for that and none for eating yourself into an early grave.

Im a tad overweight (working on it slowly!) and I dont think there is enough stigma attached to it. I should be ashamed every second. I wish people shouted 'FATTY!' at me walkign down the street. It would kick my willpower into overdrive.
Maybe I'm just too empathatic.
Insulting people is not the way to go.
But hey, If I ever see you (at a meet or something) remind me to constantly insult you on your personal appearance.

uh...? Look at Rubens' paintings, these were the "hot chicks" of the day. Compare them the typical PH supermodel porn star trophy wifes' and it is a considerable difference.

Even "hot chicks" 40 years ago were completely different body shapes to what the shallow PH males see as "normal" now.
And as for body hair, our PH Adonis' would definitely st their pants had they been near a "hot chick" 20 or 30 years ago.

What is so sad about all this story is that one woman was just shocked by it, (proabably as she is happy as she is and just thinks the Hipster guy was a tt) whilst the other story is of a lady that started crying. The lady that started crying, possibly isn't "happy" being how she is, but it is not for anyone on here or anywhere else to treat her like that. She may just eat a lot, she may not exercise, but she may also be hugely depressed by her situation, which itself can lead to poor habits and weight gain.

It is an issue, and a serious one, we all appreciate that. But just who the fk do these people (and some one here, sadly) think they are to behave like they did / have toward someone doing no one any harm, going about their day?
How do you really think this woman felt for the rest of the day or week....? For doing what, sitting on the tube minding her own business. It' a fking disgraceful situation, and one that in no way at all should be defended by anyone.
Can you quote the post of who defended it? I haven't seen that anywhere.

I'm referring to standards of female beauty in general rather than one painter who may have been a chubby chaser.

An age which produced the corset would I suggest be unlikely to consider fat sexy. They were curvier than the modern ideal but not fat.

As for "Hot chicks" 40 years ago it used to be all about ratios and the smaller that ratio in the middle the better. Again curvier than the modern ideal but not fat.

None of these women, either 40 years ago, or two hundred years ago, who were considered "hot" would likely be bigger than a size 12.

Not quite sure where you have got the idea that men who like women who keep in shape are "shallow". Sexual attraction is what it is, not what fat Feminazis say it should be.

What gets me as well is this is all one way. Women can be quite open about preferring a guy with a honed physique (and the only thing that is fat is the bank account) and many men try and keep trim via the gym etc. Apparently in return though we are supposed to desire "normal" women who struggle to fit through doors.

Don't you think it rather a sad statement on our society that a woman who is several stone overweight looks normal?

May be if more people were forthright and honest and stopped saying that people look lovely when in fact the truth is they are fat then there would be a lot less miserable fat people around.

Perhaps I phrased it wrong. I certainly wouldnt wish it on anyone and the guy was clearly a prick. But just saying I wouldnt mind it myself is all.

I think the Lady is "fat" and a size 12/14 really???.
If I buy a size 18 garment and sew a size 10 label into it, does that make me a size 10? Manufacturers can put whatever they like into a clothing label to appease people that they are smaller than they are - it's not a good measure of whether someone is fat or not!
Quite - aren't the sizes just arbitrarily made up by the manufacturers anyway? I don't know what they base them on but it's not like a simple "32 inch waist" measurement.

I seem to recall that not that long ago women who had always bought (for example) size 10 were now finding that size 10 clothes were way too big from some manufacturers; they needed to "drop" to a 6 or 8 because the manufacturers had rebranded/sized things (perhaps a cynical move to make the larger lady feel better and buy more as she is only a 12 now - who knows?)

So saying that "normal" is 14 now, could be a 10 tomorrow, or an 18 in old money!

Can I ask if there is a medical reason for this?

The reason I ask is that I'm 6ft5 and when I'm in peak shape (from running, nothing to do with weights) I will weigh 13stone. I'm currently about 13 and a half and it's obvious that I've had a lazy few weeks. 17 or 18 stone for someone 6ft sounds high, unless it's muscle.
I'm just going to have to pick this up.

I would say you are seriously under strength at 6'5 and 13 stone.

I'm 6ft1 and used to weigh 18stone at 15% body fat- did that make me fat?

(notwithstanding that, at 24 stone I am most certainly now fat, all my own fault, not exercising enough- interestingly I'm still 16stone of lean tissue- its the other 8 stone I need to worry about!)

I hate being fat but not because of what other people think. I hate it for my own reasons!

Its interesting that you can be anorexic and everyone thinks you have a problem, but if you are very obese you are just lazy. You would never tell an anorexic just to eat more!

How about the person that just "liked" their Facebook page. But by making derogatory comments about this woman as many have, you're lowering yourselves to the pathetic levels of these spineless tts with the cards.

If you all think it is ok to call this woman who you have never met, but who you saw in the paper "fat" then so be it. But it isn't, not in any vaguely normal person's world it isn't. Which suggests it is you guys that have the problem, not her.

If you really all think what you've posted on this thread is ok, go and read your posts out aloud to your circle of female friends, colleagues and family members and see what they think of you.

He said that was a joke, and he put a smiley above the post to show it was sarcastic.

What that guy did by giving her the card was wrong, there's no doubt about it. But you can't say with a straight face that people can only then share an opinion on her appearance if it is a positive one. You seem to be really angry about all of this.

wrong - I'm fat for a reason. I eat too fking much plain and simple. I don't need some dhead to hand me a card on the tube telling me what is blatantly obvious.

One of the issues with the height/weight charts is that they are not always representative. At 5'9" I should apparently be about 10 stone - I passed that mark aged 14 and up until about 30 was about 12/13 stone which according to the charts is (borderline) obese yet I played rugby every weekend and during to summer did athletics and had a waist of about 30/32. I know at this point I need to lose however the willpower is currently (very) weak, a few years ago I made a concerted effort to shift some flab and was doing well however despite a year of this I still hated every second at the gym (guess what some people never get to enjoy it) and when my life changed the gym went with it. I'm now 50 and need to start doing something again for my own good I will do it (I'll hate every second of it) but as you get older it does get harder to shift... meh, that's life. At least I'm not a judgemental idiot who hands out rude cards to people fatter than me (and there are some) and skinny people. Live and let live, above all don't be a dick
I had similar weight problems in my younger days. You can get the excess weight off if you really want to. I'm 9 years older than you and just managed to hit my weight target.

If you want to do it - DO IT.

Well I just weighed myself, I'm currently 85.7kg. I would have calculated that in my head as around just over 13 stone, but it says on Google that it is just under 13 and a half stone (13.49).

If I was to look at myself in the mirror at the moment I'd say that I'm carrying a bit of excess weight. I don't do weights etc, just run, cycle, and rowing machine. If I start training again then in three weeks I'll easily be back down to around 83kg. But it's party season etc, so I'll just be doing my usual January of no booze and no takeaway to sort myself out then.

To say I'm nearly anorexic is laughable.

That's bizarre and a tttish thing to do.

I'd heard about it but hadn't read anything and hadn't seen the woman involved - she isn't small but she certainly doesn't appear what I'd call "fat" so the whole thing is a little weird.

This is a news story about a fat woman who was called fat. I would say it is fair enough to then point this out.

It doesn't mean we follow fat women around on the street shouting "fatso".

http://mentalfloss.com/article/66536/what-dress-size-was-marilyn-monroe-actually

"Marilyn would be roughly a U.S. size 6 or 8"

Beware the changing dress sizes over time. She was not a "plus size".
