And you seem rather defensive about it.
I am just dismayed that there seem to be some supposed "men" that are happy to slag off a perfectly normal woman who has been wronged by what can only be described as a weasel of a "man". By sharing his opinion of her, ie by calling her fat, you're helping this prick justify his actions.
you seem totally lost. you can object as much as you want to her being told this in this way but to cling to the notion that 'normal' fat doesn't mean fat is bizarreI am just dismayed that there seem to be some supposed "men" that are happy to slag off a perfectly normal woman who has been wronged by what can only be described as a weasel of a "man". Is this what they call fat shaming in the US? People shouldn't shame other people, it's one of the shameful things about western culture, people who shame other should take a look at eastern culture and be ashamed of themselves - That's irony.
I don't often agree with you but this is spot onFredClogs said:

I must say, that's quite rich coming from you, someone who spammed my thread about losing weight and starting weight training. What did you say when I proved you wrong, I was having mid-life crisis?Yeah, people shouldn't shame other people..

But equally fair play to her for having the courage to stand up and say something rather than being an anonymous ahole handing out a card and then legging it, or being an anonymous coward on the internet picking holes in people.
huh? even if we believe her story and that it wasn't aimed at eliciting some tea and sympathy (and maybe some cake nom nom nom) 'courage' to post on facebook and speak to the daily mail? to claim not to be fat? to say it doesn't matter anyway?bhstewie said:

Well I just weighed myself, I'm currently 85.7kg. I would have calculated that in my head as around just over 13 stone, but it says on Google that it is just under 13 and a half stone (13.49).
If I was to look at myself in the mirror at the moment I'd say that I'm carrying a bit of excess weight. I don't do weights etc, just run, cycle, and rowing machine. If I start training again then in three weeks I'll easily be back down to around 83kg. But it's party season etc, so I'll just be doing my usual January of no booze and no takeaway to sort myself out then.
To say I'm nearly anorexic is laughable.
oops sorry brabusmog, really poor choice of words by me in my original post- I really wasn't suggesting that you were anorexic as you certainly aren't! Its interesting that you can be anorexic and everyone thinks you have a problem, but if you are very obese you are just lazy. You would never tell an anorexic just to eat more!

Years ago, most high street chain stores used to only stock women's fashions up to size 16.
Ladies any larger than this were forced to do the walk of shame to Evans or Ann Harveys, who catered solely for the fuller figure.
The stigma attached to shopping at such outlets meant that ladies, particularly the younger ones, were more inclined to try and stay in shape.
Those days are long gone as mainstream high street fashion shops have 'adjusted' their dress sizes over the years and each one is now bigger.
There's now no shame or stigma, and a full range of fashionwear is readily accessible, to ladies who used to hide in the voluminous dresses, that were the only things available.
Does their bum look big in these new clothes? - very probably, but they don't have to care any more

Much less as a matter of every day discourse, although granted they do use shame as a punishment quite extensively, but not as a means of developing a conversation or casual disagreement.
btw your use of 5 question marks is truly shameful.
the shadow of shame is never absent, especially in their polite conversations (have 5.....) !!!!! btw your use of 5 question marks is truly shameful.

I agree. Is it any different to saying 'smoking that will kill you!'? There are adverts all over the place for that and none for eating yourself into an early grave.
Im a tad overweight (working on it slowly!) and I dont think there is enough stigma attached to it. I should be ashamed every second. I wish people shouted 'FATTY!' at me walkign down the street. It would kick my willpower into overdrive.

Insulting people is not the way to go.
But hey, If I ever see you (at a meet or something) remind me to constantly insult you on your personal appearance.
Maybe that's you, and that's fine.
But, and this is something I've came to a personal realisation in the last year or so, is that just because <I> think it's OK to say or do something, doesn't actually make it OK, and that other people do have feelings and maybe aren't quite as cut-off as I am.

Being fat (and again from the photo personally I wouldn't call her fat) is unhealthy, is a drain on the NHS, and does need tackling because as a nation we're going to have a big (excuse the pun) problem on our hands in a generations time.
If you want to do something about it there has to be a more constructive way than handing out "business cards" and running off like a wimp - have the courage of your convictions rather than be a snide little st.

Perhaps, but what that tosser did on the train is totally unacceptable.

i don't think anyone would disagree about the card hander but her focus is on requesting outrage (while at the same time saying she isn't fat and anyway it shouldn't matter)Being fat (and again from the photo personally I wouldn't call her far) is unhealthy, is a drain on the NHS, and does need tackling because as a nation we're going to have a big (excuse the pun) problem on our hands in a generations time.

tackling the core issue rather than celebrating individualism accompanied by denial or whatever is what's needed
we can massively tax smokers and tell them they shouldn't but we mustn't upset fatties
