and that's the problem.

Clearly handing out rude messages to people is not on, but a way needs to be found to get over to these rapidly expanding women that virtually all movie starlets are UK dress size 8-10 for a reason.

Men like curves, but the curve where their stomach goes in at the waist is also a curve.

At my office it is a professional environment and quite a few male workers and mostly male clients and most of the girls are seemingly in a competition to stay slim.

If I go out to primary schools where the workforce is almost entirely female and there are always biscuits and cakes in the kitchen then many of the young girls are on the heavy side to put it mildly, maybe it is coincidence or maybe it is reinforcement in that sort of environment that fat is acceptable.

CURVY roflroflroflrofl

I knew it wouldn't be long before that was trotted out. You could grab a handful of fat at nearly any point on her body, Jen Selter is curvy, this woman is flabby.

Smiler.

Another thing that has changed to suit peoples growing waistlines then.

Curvy should mean there is some substance to the curves, muscle perhaps, layers of flab that fall wherever they're not supported is not curvy. This woman without clothes would be a shapeless blob.

As said, cards are too much, but lets not pretend she's 'curvy' in a good way.

One of the most negative impacts for me of the Internet is that it has led to an era of endless rudeness where people seem to think that it is just fine to heap abuse on strangers for any behaviour or trait they find objectionable. Additionally they get egged on by more strangers. There used to be a time when ignorance was frowned on and politeness was a virtue.

Jesus wept, some people on here need to get a grip on themselves.

There are many reasons why some people carry a bit of extra weight, for example things like some cancer therapies for women. Who thinks someone going through that needs to be handed a card like this?

If it happened to my missus there would be hipster parts all over the Central Line.

People need to mind their own fking business.

The woman in this article looks fine to me.

People who say it isn't "normal", well, it is!! Average size for a lady is (I think) size 14 to 16, so a size 14 woman is entirely normal.

What they mean is, they like them skinnier. Or her BMI is over a certain number. But times change, fashions change, people change and develop. Check out what "hot women" looked like in Ruben's time, (400 years ago if you don't know who he is!) And I am fairly sure we had less food and nutrition about in those days.

if these women were bleating on or moaning about how they look, and how it is not their fault, then maybe (just maybe), some would have a point that they need to take responsibility for it. But it is still not on handing out cards like this IMO. However the fact they are sat on the train, going to work etc, minding their own business, means they should be left alone and even if you think they are the biggest mess and a heart attach waiting to happen, it's none of your fking business, so leave them be.

The whole story demonstrates a societal problem we have now, created in part by social media and in part by porn, where women are expected to look a certain way i.e. as close to physical "perfection" as possible; mainly because of all the focus the media now puts on women who spend every waking moment focusing on their appearance. If you scroll through the first page of Instagram, all you have is female fitness models (with the occasional guy appearing) who do, admittedly, all have have fantastic physiques however it's completely unrepresentative of a woman who doesn't have a nutritionist, can't spend 4 hours a day in the gym and whose only focus isn't their body.

If women are too skinny, they're criticised for being not curvy enough. If women are too curvy, they're criticised for being fat. If women are too muscular, they're criticised for having a penis. It's this medium ground which seems to be perceived as desirable to the media/men however which is difficult for a lot of women to obtain.

Men on the other hand are still seen as dominant in today's society (through money, power etc.) and therefore don't have the same focus put upon them as women - it's all about wealth. The classic is all the very wealthy men whizzing around London in supercars who I'm sure are chased by women who have the physiques social media seem to reward nowadays. The irony being the men in question are often either scrawny little things who've never seen a dumbbell in their lives or little fatties who've spent too much time and money at Novikov.

I agree that yes, the lady here is probably not in the healthy BMI range however at the same time, she's not grossly overweight and for anyone to single a person out in a non-constructive and very public way is unacceptable.

The equivalent of the female physique that males praise is someone like Steve Cook or Lex Griffin. As such, if you don't look like that, shut the fk up and get down the gym yourself.

P.S. Thanks okgo for proving my point. Jen Selter is one of the most popular female fitness models on Instagram who's very existence is on the basis of her looking a certain way and therefore dedicates herself, in a way very few women can, to achieving and maintaining that look. thumbup

Its a first world problem, they are fat and need to accept the fact, it should be a criminal offence too allow your child to be an obese pig just as it is technically illegal to buy them alcohol / tobacco.

They should also stop selling revealing clothes in anything over size 14, I do not need to see some beached moby dick rolling down the high street in her 'hotpants'.

"I'm just big boned", no 'chubbs' you have no self control and cannot be trusted at the buffet.

We have allowed this to become social acceptable, I watched a chap in work who after climbing two flights of stairs needed to sit down as he sounded like Darth Vader having an asthma attack! An old school teacher used to have to take the elevator from the school canteen to her office because she was too fat to waddle up the stairs yet would have three sausage rolls in her pudgy fingers!

My girlfriend and I have a take-away once a week and a meal out 2 times a week plus I have lunch out every day ... I am not a fat whale, I walk, have diet drinks, restrict snacking etc to ensure I do not become a bloody fire hazard.

Yes it is their own choice but have some self respect, rather than crying into your Doritos Sharebag.

Rant.

This.

Card passed to wrong person.

Horrible thing to do. Must admit to seeing some waddlers who make the eyes bulge almost as much as their waistlines who you might think might deserve such a card but a) you would never wish or want someone to actually do it other than in your head and b) this lady is about half the size of those i would consider appropriate in my head in the first place!!!

I am sorry people if a card was given to someone for being black. It would be a criminal a fence. I do not see how this can be treated as public disorder. As far as I see it. it is a hate crime and it must be treated as such.
Except being fat is a lifestyle choice whereas being black is not.
Ok there may be 1% of them who have serious disorders but almost all fat people are fat due to lack of discipline.

The wording in the letter is a bit extreme but sometimes a reality check is needed. The woman in the pic is NOT a normal/healthy/attractive size.

Oh FFS the girl's fat. Not thin or merely plump. Fat.

She's like that because she's greedy and doesn't exercise enough.

It's very rude to tell her this though.

You need to check out the definition of "normal". If she is a size 14, she's normal.

Get over yourselves, ffs.

I am 14 stone, 6ft1 and broad, I look fine and am fit, I train with a PT once a week and at least once, usually twice, without. My missus is a size 12, she runs once a week. She is not a supermodel, and neither am I. The woman in the photo who was handed this card by a prick, is completely normal in my eyes, and in the eyes of the majority of the population. On the basis that average woman's size is 5ft 3, 11 stone, size 16, and most women of age have a partner, I'd suggest anyone thinking she is not "normal" is not themselves "normal" by definition, ie the majority of women are bigger than her and the majority of them are in relationships with guys who think they are fine.

Being of a particular religious persuasion is a "lifestyle" choice as you say it, so you think it would be ok to go around handing out cards to Muslims and Budhists pointing out one's prejudices and calling them names..?

Take a look at yourselves men of PH if you think this is in ANY way justified..

Incorrect.

In my office there are many ladies who I would consider have a "perfect" body, including one 40+ mother of two. They work at it rather than sit around eating cake and moaning about unrealistic expectations.
