The Sevenoaks Chronicle reported that the Audi A4 was occupied by an elderly couple and its roof was cut off by firefighters.

Sorry not sure how to quote

According to the radio report the bus was in collision with a car first.

Almost certainly be an auto. Most crashes involving 'elderly' drivers are automatics. Maybe a ban on over 70's driving them? It's much harder to crash in a manual.

The couple in the car were coming in from the Brasted direction, so they were probably turning left into London Road from Market Square and instead of negotiating the left turn they appear to have turned slightly and then shot straight through the side of Costa!

It's a very busy junction there, you've got the traffic coming in from Biggin Hill to join the main A25 and traffic turning in from the A25.

Westerham is always a busy town, and being Xmas Eve it was probably rammed with cars, so it could have been a number of things that caused the crash other than the speculative reason I gave above.

Terrible for all involved. Looking at the picture, it seems like a tragic fluke that the car slotted neatly into the single garage sized shop window, rather than hitting the wall either side.

Article says the driver had a heart attack.

It's a 3 litre Audi Quattro so quite quick if the old timer's floored it trying to brake.

And the last few MOTs show they have a devil may care attitude to tyres.

Maybe going off on a tangent, but there's a reason some of the elderly drive autos, just see if you can guess why without going into ban this, ban that mode first.

Nearly 1.3 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day.

Lets all run around in panic.

It was reported the driver may have had a heart attack so probably nothing to do with the type of transmission fitted and before anyone starts about banning oldies from driving, age is no barrier to dropping down dead.

This in just the last 2 weeks around by me south wales there has been 7 recorded crashes along the m4 one every day last week and the latest one this morning. Also 5 serious crashes within my town few fatalities too. The only reason these are being shown is its x-mas eve and there is naff all else to put out as news.
