PH favourite Tony Martin is being held again.

I wonder what the specifics of this case are?

Plenty of them getting locked up on a regular basis.

Any sniff of an illegal firearm needs to be taken seriously and dealt with regarldess of who the alleged 'offender' is.

One assumes that Martin would no longer be able get a shotgun licence after his conviction? If that's the case then he's probably acquired one anyway to use on his farm - very silly.

yup, you're probably right, not the best move, but I can see why he would.

Unnecessary though, as are st hot police force will know doubt have been able to cover his back just in case somebody sought revenge on him... (like they did in the first place...)

Silly bugger. However, what struck me was the 'police car' parked up (cutting back on police decals on their cars now? biggrin ) but even more was the police comment:
'As part of a planned operation, a 71-year-old man has been arrested...'

Nah, you're wrong. In the simplistic world of Scuffers, the police should ignore it because we all know the 'ignore something because there may be something more serious somewhere else' is great logic.

as usual, you are completely wrong.

My point is why does it need a 'planned operation' with multiple PC Plods for X days to go visit a 71 year old man and confiscate any alleged firearm(s)?

Hell, we are always being told about limited police resources and how nobody is available etc etc.

Of course that was your point. That's why you wrote this:

My mistake, when you were talking about 'targets', you were actually asking about the necessity of pre-planned policing operations laugh

Because in the non-pretend world that's how things work. It's one of the reasons we are able to manage without having every officer without a firearm (as opposed to nearly everywhere else in the world) because things are planned when a firearms matter arises.

I'm sure you'd be able to search a farm properly on your own, but for non-super humans, it takes a little longer.

Be interesting then to see the full outcome.
You know, whether they did have search his farm or whether he simply opened the door and came quietly?

And re your penultimate para, how long though before they are all armed (like nearly everywhere else in the world) - would you say never?

Because its a firearms job, how would you do it?

Unless you just want to send a PCSO and hope he comes quietly.....

Searching and 'coming quietly' are two separate matters. Resources for a search will be decided by the area and depth-of-search required. A farm is a very large area to search for something relatively small.

I expect everyone involved expected him to 'come quietly' - nearly all do with pre-planned matters like this. He also may have had a knock at the door. We don't know which tactics were used. However, safely arresting someone who may be in possession of a firearm requires sufficient resources to offer contingencies in case the improbable / unexpected occurs. The is fundamentally enough people to safely contain if required.

It's important to consider 'what if?' scenarios in jobs that are heavily managing risk. You can tell those who have no concept of this as they draw conclusions from superficial information i.e. '71 year old man who I support therefore it'll be ok' type thinking.

We could never say never, but I can't see it happening any time soon.

If you think that dealing with a person of media interest ( becasue he is ) with previous firearms related homicide conviction for a firearm related issue is goingtobe anything other than planned in the absence of him going on a rampage ... you must have some pretty funny ideas .

never mind properly search the farm and outbuildings ...

as another poster suggested i suspect that this is down to the fact following his revious conviction he isn;t going to be allowed a SGC never mind an S.1 cert ...

NYE is a normal working day for the Police (and the NHS and so on) ...

Really? I would have been happier had he been given a medal.

Don't want to get hurt? Don't burgle someone's house. We need a law that says we can use any and all force against someone who breaks into our houses.

Absolutely. We should be able to behead 10 year olds who burgle under duress. Oh, not such a great generalisation.
