Tony Martin held in relation to illegal firearms possession

Today's arrest came after the bachelor farmer claimed he still kept illegal weapons to a reporter - although he refused to say how many.
Mr Martin was commenting on the shooting at an Essex care home where pensioner Rita King, 81, was allegedly killed by her husband, in which he claimed that 'Britain was awash with illegally held firearms.'
He then said that he too kept a weapon, or weapons, but joked to the reporter, 'You'll have to find out, won't you...'
Mr Martin insisted that police were in denial of the scale of illegally held guns in Britain and dismissed his own local force, Norfolk Constabulary as 'a bunch of half wits.'

Of course that wasn't what you said .....you intimated it needed the infrastructure to make the arrest.
Be interesting to see if they find nothing and when he said he had another weapon in his interview he was bullstting.
Maybe you could handle that press interview?
Incorrect as they still require the same resources for the arrest regardless of where it took place. Be interesting to see if they find nothing and when he said he had another weapon in his interview he was bullstting.

It still takes a firearms command structure, firearms teams and search teams to.....
...arrest a 71 y/old man in a local town.
The old duffer shot the planning officer dead and wounded the PC with an illegally held firearm.
Still think the police were over reacting when dealing with a 71 y/o man?

There was a case a few years back where a PC went with a planning officer to provide a bit of legal back up for the eviction of some old duffer from his illegally built dwelling prior to it's demolition.

Albert Dryden - that was 1991 when he had made specific threats beforehandThe old duffer shot the planning officer dead and wounded the PC with an illegally held firearm.
Still think the police were over reacting when dealing with a 71 y/o man?
So - yes

What do you mean? Pathetic that the authorities took action you mean? Or pathetic from your perspective that the action required so much resource? Or pathetic that the idiot made the boasts?Just how more pathetic can this get?

The authorities appear to be reacting to the individual making statements about the illegal ownership of firearms. Statements made in the press. How is that a case of the Police being dictated to by the press? I don't understand what you mean. Should there be no reaction?
So, just what will be said when no firearms are discovered?Arrest him for wasting police time?

What will you say when (sic) illegally held firearms are found?Arrest him for wasting police time?
(in answer to your question - I'd fully support your suggestion!)
I remain intrigued, though. If a notorious man such as he, a man convicted of murder by shooting (later reduced to manslaughter on appeal) boasts he holds illegal firearms do you think NFA is the appropriate response? I'd want it taken seriously... I certainly don't think the reaction of the Police is pathetic. Tony Martin mouthing off is pathetic.

Can't see why Martin 'mouthing off' is pathetic. The press went to him for an opinion, and he gave it.
I'm not particularly interested in his opinions (of the recent murder). He can possess those as much as he wants. He can tell all and sundry. I think his decision to follow up any opinion by boasting to the press he possesses firearms is the pathetic bit. If you really must possess illegal firearms I would have thought the daftest thing you might do would be to tell the press!FredClogs said:
He's a piece of st killer, hope he goes away for a very long time for the good of public safety.
You share the same christian name as his 'victim', is that homage to a wonderful chap who wanted someone else's property and got what he deserved?Albeit with a pump action which was a bit heavy but don't kick fresh dogst on a hot day

as another poster suggested i suspect that this is down to the fact following his revious conviction he isn;t going to be allowed a SGC never mind an S.1 cert ...[/b]
He is a prohibited person under section 21 of the Firearms Act 1968 by virtue of his existing conviction. This includes possession of all firearms, including air guns, and ammunition for life, and as of recently, all antique firearms as well.
