You booked an Ibis
I very often book Ibis - use them for work, too - as the points scheme is excellent and you know exactly what you're going to get (most of the time!) - basic, but usually very centrally located and great value for money. This was the first dodgy one I've stayed in - but I feel it's more a reflection of the city. (A German ex-colleague asked me why the hell I wanted to visit Frankfurt when he found out I was going there! - I now know why!)
I have stayed in two, one in Paris and the other I cannot remember, though probably UK. Both were bad, and in areas where I felt unsafe walking out and about.

There are dodgy areas in almost all cities. Land will be cheaper nearer these areas hence cheaper hotels.

Are there no nice parts of Frankfurt?

No, better avoid Frankfurt for safety´s sake, nochting to see here.

It´s getting harder and harder for me to buy ammo for my MG 42 that I use for defence,

usually I have to empty a whole box of rounds just on the commute.

Have you thought about getting a weapon with a slightly lower cyclic rate and aiming better?
The savings you make with ammo can be put towards a Flammenwerfer or two.

To the people who are pro mass immigration and are against immigration control, how many blown up, shot, stabbed, raped, runover, robbed people are acceptable for you to have that nice warm fuzzy feeling you get from helping people who generally don't give two sts about you? 100, 1000, 10000?
who are those people?

but how many blown up, shot, stabbed, raped, runover, robbed people are acceptable for you when it's natives doing it?

I'm not sure when exactly the last person was killed by being blown up in Germany, but I guarantee all those other crimes, more are committed by Germans in Germany and Brits in Britain than by foreign born people (never mind recent migrants)

Frankfurt is a dive. We booked an Ibis hotel near the hauptbahnhof this autumn. It had a broken lift and stairs not fit for an East End tower block.

The surrounding area was full of gangsters, pimps, hookers, druggies - all the dregs of German society.

Does it surprise me this has happened in Frankfurt? - no, not at all.

And it certainly wouldn't surprise me if it has been carried out by a drugged up German national.

It's far too early to be jumping to conclusions - as this kind of thing in Germany could quite easily be conducted by far right scum, too.

But hey, let's not get any kind of reasonable thought get in the way of a nice bit of racism.
can't disagree with a thing you've written in this post
Hmmm Hauptbahnhof in Frankfurt................. Frankfurt is far from a dive but if you stayed in the absolute sttiest area then I can see how you managed to obtain this impression.

You only need one box of ammo for what is a compact weapon? Is your flat and workplace in the same house!?

There are no nice parts in Frankfurt.

Ethnicity doesn't equal migration status exactly though, does it

So you're stuck with deporting brown people or people with funny names

No doubt it will make the people and the families of the people that are killed and raped by imported criminals feel much better knowing that it could have just been as easily a native born person that did it.
This is just nonsense, if you're saying it's worse being the victim of those evil foreign types, why would anyone feel better about a good old english criminal? How about a Yorkshireman being stabbed by a bloke from Manchester? WOuld that be OK?

Im saying it worse when something simple could have been done to prevent it from happening in the first place. If someone was killed by someone who was just released from a mental institute known to be violent people would ask why was this person allowed out.

People use the argument that just because a small minority are bad everyone else shouldn't suffer. But that's exactly how much of society laws work why have speed limits, drinking laws, gambling law, drug law? Because even though most people would be sensible a small minority spoil it for everyone else.

So yes if someone is killed by a immigrant that did not need to be in the country in the first place i do think it's worse than someone being killed by a citizen within the country.
Being keep killed isint great no matter who carries it out, but I am not sure the argument that we have bad people in our country is some sort of justification to allow in hundreds more ?

How many of the million or so migrants Germany took in have a criminal record - nobody has any idea, there will be murderers and rapists along with all the engineers and doctors, but that is ok as Germany also has murders and rapists.

When you get certain immigrant groups over represented in the prison system, then you have a problem.

It's crap, for about 500-700 meters walking in the direction of Willy Brandt. Or to Sachsenhausen. Then the area becomes very nice, very quickly.

It's really amazing how people who don't know Frankfurt at all, seem to be able to form their opinion so quickly.

Last time I went to FF was about 2 years ago and I could not believe how many beggars were on the streets, that was a huge change from my visit 4 year prior to that. That said, compared to a contemporary Manchester or London it was a veritable paradise.

Much longer ago since I last went but my overriding impression was that it was a dump, especially compared to places like Munich and Berlin. But...

....stations always attract dubious characters in big cities IME. Cheap/crap hotels, hookers, drug sellers etc. Potter round the London stations and you'd find the same thing.

We often stay not too far from main stations when travelling - especially have done in Germany and Austria, as you can guarantee you're close to the centre of the city - Accor, in particular, name hotels 'xxxx city' when they're miles out!

Frankfurt was by far the worst place we'd been. The drive in, the drive out, the messing about checking in, then complaining and leaving. I did wonder if my car would be there when I returned!

Maybe we've been spoiled - we've been to lots of German cities (off the top of my head, Bonn, Berlin, Dresden, Brunswick, Cologne, Koblenz, and a good number more) - but never felt anywhere was as dodgy as what we saw of Frankfurt.

My German ex-colleague was really puzzled when we said we were going there!

that is sad to hear. i have not been there for a very long time .my grandfather used to work for lufthansa and i had fond memories of holidays with my grandparents .i was very young but the overriding memory i have of the place was just how clean and tidy the city was.

I hope she wins and continues with her polices, the left are holding her up as the last great hope for there utopia. And we can watch Germany as we know it crumble or be proved wrong and watch it turn into a multicultural success. I know what my money will be on.
the left? the CDU?

FFM is a lot nicer than it was 7 or so years ago when I moved here. The Bahnhof area is virtually unrecognisable to how it used to be but in the last 18 months, there has been a re-emergence of heavy drug use at the top of the Kaisterstrasse.

There are more beggars than there used to be but the numbers mysteriously increased after a couple of countries joined the EU.

The city is very clean, especially compared to UK cities and Berlin, which I think is a dump. The 'problem' with FFM compared to other German cities is due to it not being sympathetically rebuilt after WW2. It is a bit ugly.

Similar to Cologne, aside from cleanliness. Many parts have vastly improved in the last 10 years or so, but it remains a particularly ugly example of postwar rebuilding efforts.

Cologne is also not a dangerous city, but we too have experienced an uptick in beggars.
