You should try Zurich station, they have Fragrants. Nice smelling tramps...
Living in Zürich, it's always a shock to the system when I visit Manchester! I think I see a beggar twice a year in Zürich and I'm convinced they aren't homeless.
Eh? Beggars in Manchester? That's how the locals dress here, eyebeebe.

A german intelligence officer secretly converts to Islam and plots a bomb attack on the spy HQ "in the name of Allah".

Sounds like he's been watching too much Homeland.

Radio 4 had quite a balanced piece from Germany this am (around 07:15 if you catch it on iPlayer).

Spoke to small town mayor who has been assaulted - by one of his German neighbours - for expressing a wish to help refugees. Also to one of the founders of the Freedom Party (a Dr.) who spoke of the danger of losing the Christian heritage of their country.

Only a very brief snapshot.

It means the same as the names of all imaginary friend followers - demented.

Christian values of tolerance, generosity and forgiveness can create a great society. Most of jesus's teachings are quite pragmatic.

Most of the committee that decided what should be in the bible for effective crowd control decided on pragmatic direction and sensibilities?

Apart from the having the no other gods and false idols bits, the ten commandments are a reasonable set of guidelines for a decent life so I'm comfortable living a society based on Judaeo-Christian foundations. Compare and contrast with most other belief systems around the world. The trend to secularism is fine as long as we don't lose the basics of being a decent human being which the basic Christian guidelines for treating our fellow humans are a good place to start.
If it makes any difference, I'm an atheist.

She's the last of this lot left standing, for how much longer I wonder? Assuming the German economy remains strong I guess there's a strong probability she'll win another term at the top.

Do we read into this that "wherever legally possible" does not mean in Germany ?

The BBC article says that the law wont allow a ban in public places.

Surely it was only last year that she came out with;

"Islam belongs to Germany"

"Germans should get used to seeing more Mosques than Churches"

Has Germany now reached the point of saying we are Supportive of Muslims and Islam but not chapters 2, 4 and 7 ?

That said if it is what the German people want, that is their choice.

Sharia Patrols are not illegal.

Maybe not, but if you look at the segregation issues reported this week in the UK, it is not surprising that one thing leads to another.

You allow Sharia Patrols in a small town - they are not illegal.

The non Muslim population tire of being harassed when drinking alcohol, buying sausages and wearing clothes that may display a shoulder or knee.

The non muslim population moves away and the area becomes 90% plus Muslim.

We then start to raise concerns about segregation ?

Suggestions that the Government should introduces policies to entice non muslims back to the area.

Stephen Hawkins said we would probably not last another 1000 years - I would be surprised if we lasted that long !

Yeah, the Christians are determined to see women treated as equals. If only secular laws would stop slowing their progress down.

I don't understand - now that Merkel is all for banning the burka does that mean she racist and sexist?

Typical PH. I never mentioned Christians as being wonderful. Merely that most of the basic tenets, not killing, stealing etc, are not bad rules by which to live. That's all.

Hmm not sure what your point is here, The Church of England has Female Priests and Bishops ? I don't think you could say modern Christianity has a huge problem with equality.
