So, there's an Airbus 321 has a hole blown through it's side, the 'likely' bomber is smeared down the side of the plane, conspiracies abound as the original Turkish carrier cancelled their filling of the route and PH misses it? Apart from the few posts in planes, trains etc..

Would possibly have been far worse at greater altitude.

We're slipping!

I saw reports yesterday, but wondered was it realty bomber. The man blown out of the plane has been described as "an old man" and "elderly". Seems an unusual mo. I wonder if he was just a victim (bomber in toilet, another seat or whatever - or maybe "two out"?)

bbc said:
A blast that punched a large hole in the fuselage of a passenger plane at Somalia's Mogadishu airport on Tuesday was caused by a bomb, officials say.

"It was a bomb that exploded in the Daallo Airlines flight. It was meant to kill all aboard," Transport Minister Ali Ahmed Jamac said.

One passenger was sucked out of the plane and died, and two other passengers were injured.

Puts a (w)hole new slant on the youtube vids where wheelchair users are 'molested' by security checking for bombs.

Was it a bomb or an exploding laptop battery?

One version I've heard is that the bomber masqueraded as a disabled person and boarded in a wheel chair and wasn't subjected to the same checks as other passengers. If true, hopefully this was only the case at Mickey Mouse Central Airport and not in those in more - shall we say, 'advanced'? - countries. Or that the security people are now aware of another cunning ploy by the terrorist scum we unfortunately share the planet with.

Daily Mail now reporting that the bomber was handed a dodgy laptop while airside, according to Somali authorities.

Not sure what happened to the bit of the story about him being in a wheelchair, that part seems to have fallen by the wayside.

From personal experience I can report that Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Tenerife, Barcelona and Sofia all check wheelchair users just as carefully as able bodied passengers. If you're in your own wheelchair, not one provided by the airport special assistance, it gets a very thorough going over, swabbed for explosives etc.

I am truly amazed how little coverage/attention this story has gotten from the media. It could literally happen at any time to any of us.

Mental note to self not to travel through third world country airports. Ever.

Good. Very glad to hear it. As per, I got singled out for the full scan and check at Heathrow and Charles de Gaulle on the way out and back last October. Don't know why.The funny thing was that the Heathrow scanner picked up/showed something dodgy near my knee. But, as demonstrated, there was absolutely nothing metallic in my leg, under my trousers or on them. Still took some convincing.
