I went on the hydrofoil cross-channel service years ago, very quick and smooth.
I always thought the hydrofoil was the best way to get across.
Very disappointed when the shut it down. frown
I don't remember it being a hydrofoil, I though it was a catermaran.
There was a hydrofoil at Ramsgate and a catamaran at Folkestone, the catamaran wasn't very reliable and didn't run in rough seas.

Ok interesting. I remember going on the hovercraft in 1990. The outbound trip was fun but the return trip was really rough. We had to run down the French coast for a while then scoot across. People were throwing up everywhere, well, in sick bags anyway, you definitely couldn't stand up that's for sure.

They were pretty uncomfortable in rough seas, in 1985 one hit the wall of the harbour and a passenger died. By the 90s they seemed mainly to be used by tobacco gangs which was a shame. I worked at the hoverport for a bit and it was a good place to work though they were very noisy.
