Then just shut the tunnel! How difficult can that be? It's a fk1ng tube with two ends!
Might as well shut the ports while we're at it..........after all there will be no trade, tourism etc as it will all disappear if we leave the EU.I would bet most visitors to the UK fly in.
And why is it so hard to vet train passengers any more than airline passengers?
Our basic mistake was having the channel tunnel's end in France.

Precisely. Question and answer provided. Even the French wouldn't allow anybody to get onto a plane at Orly or CDG whereas they aren't so bothered about their end of the tunnel. Either take control of their end of the tunnel (which no doubt the French won't allow) or we detain illegals at the UK end and return them to France (whilst billing them for the cost of detainment). Our basic mistake was having the channel tunnel's end in France.

I well remember the bad old days before 1974, when countless thousands of Welshmen used to queue up for days on end at the Irish, French and Scottish Consulates in Cardiff, waiting interminably for a faceless indolent bureaucrat to grant or deny a visa to travel for the Five Nations. It was a terrible time and I don't think we want to go back to those days. irocfan said:
EU referendum: PM says Brexit could bring Calais 'Jungle' to UK

It's great that this has been realised. Given that we are 99% sure to be leaving the EU shambles, the government plans to cater for the influx will be at an advanced stage http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendu...

From what I remember of it there was a bit of presentation trickery of giving a speech or two without notes or a tie which some people saw as new and exciting. And a few people around him who saw potential career advancement. And the competition wasn't too strong and he dressed himself up the right way to suit what people at the time thought they wanted i.e. a shiny Blair clone.
I wouldn't saw he was stupid though, just not very bright. Plus unpleasant, superficial, disinterested, lazy, entitled... let's just say the feedback from both his PR and political careers doesn't put him in a particularly good light.
It's a bit like Boris. Some people think he's stupid. Other people think he's a clever person occasionally pretending to be stupid. Closer access suggests someone who actually is a bit thick but cunning, and benefits from an excellent education plus good contacts. The mess in his private life gives a better idea of what he's like than his political career does.
Actual smart people see more opportunity in other fields, and realise that if you want political influence you just buy it rather than seeking it in office.

That's because it works - lots of people simply vote for the least-worst option so whilst they may not like the EU if you paint a bad enough picture of what life would be like if we leave you've just got yourself a load of votes.
Cameron did the same at the general election - he spoke less about what the future of Britain would look like under a Conservative government and more about what it would be like under a Labour-SNP government.
The question is how do the Brexit campaigners counter this?
You'd think they'd start by rallying around all the UKIP mps that were voted into parliament last year as a result of the huge groundswell of public support for all things anti-EU.Cameron did the same at the general election - he spoke less about what the future of Britain would look like under a Conservative government and more about what it would be like under a Labour-SNP government.
The question is how do the Brexit campaigners counter this?

Assuming the same approach is needed, not that it is...Cameron did the same at the general election - he spoke less about what the future of Britain would look like under a Conservative government and more about what it would be like under a Labour-SNP government.

Instead of pointing to some imaginary scary thing in the future, point to the EU at the present time, what's been going on in the real world is far more scary. Better Out than In. A well-known saying
