Evening boys/girls, need some advice.

About 6 months ago my mrs was using my car for a while and was insured on it. She parked it outside a local shop and when she came out there is a decent sized scuff on the front which is down to the plastic. She managed to get a witness who saw a truck reverse into my car and drive off leaving no details. We managed to get the CCTV and reported it to the police and the insurance company. The police said the car was apparently sold a few days before and couldn't determine who was driving. My girlfriend's insurance company said the other company won't admit fault so they can not do anything until they admit fault. I want to get it sorted and have come up with the following 3 options:

1 - Get the repairs done myself and take the insurance company of the truck to a small claims court to get reimbursed for the costs.

2 - Used a third party claims management company to fix the car and then they recover costs from the trucks insurance company.

3 - Just pay for the repair myself.

What would you do?

I would pay myself and move on. Then again I do like the simple life.

I would have gone for option 3 normally but this is the second time in 6 months this has happened to me. We paid the excess the first time. This car has a curse I swear!

They won't take it on unless there's a strong chance of getting a result. And it doesn't sound as if there is.

Leave it as is and wait for next time. These things always happen in threes.

6 months down the line and no better off I'd take the hit and fix it myself now. It's fking annoying but sadly suit things happen in life, especially when insurance companies are involved.

Doesn't make sense, your car has been damaged and your insurance company won't fix it unless they can get the other party to admit fault? Are you only TPF&T?

Yep the car is fully comp. In the last year 2 people of done a hit and run and 1 person has hit me and exchanged details, so I've already had the 3 times thing!

Guess I will just have to pay for the repair myself, does anyone know a good sprayer around the Sutton/Carshalton/Wallington area?

The whole episode has put me off buying a brand new car, I would never buy one again. Too many people who are jealous idiots!

So although you have paid a premium for fully comprehensive insurance, they are not prepared to pay out any more?

Good luck! Last Friday I had an artic try and turn next to my parked car. It dragged my car, with the handbrake on and the alarm going off, about twenty feet up the road. The front wing and bumper got ripped off. Huge chunk out of an alloy wheel. Broken headlight, ripped out the arch liner and damaged the inner wing brace. Two grands worth of damage. He then stopped looked out the cab at my wrecked car and drove off. The CCTV footage doesn't show the number plate of the unmarked truck. Police not interested, despite number plate and CCTV cams at the end of the road and me having the incident time. My wife and I have a joint policy with four cars on it, and the resulting price increase in the policy if I did claim has left me with no choice but to pay to fix my car due to some incompetent selfish tosser.....

I still don't understand why your insurance company can't do anything, or do you mean they can't do anything in terms of getting it done on a non-fault basis? If that's what they're saying and you have CCTV showing the reg number of the van and it hitting your car then it sounds like you need to be going through their complaints procedure.

Yeah they will fix it but it ail go down as a fault claim something I can't afford to happen at the moment. I will try their official complaints procedure and see where that takes me.

What can you complain about? They're right in what they're doing.

In similar circumstances to the OP, where my insurance weren't prepared to fight the lies of the moron who hit me, Europa Consultants (a PH'er) happily took it on and sorted it all out for me.

Call the police again and ask to speak with the Sergeant or Inspector on traffic. Record the phone call for your own purposes.
