Have you seen any sleepers (real ones) for sale recently? Like old cr*ppy looking volvo 740 with huge turbos... or silly engine swap in modest looking cars? any links of ads maybe?

Counting this as a sleeper? I would guess to the unknown this is just a golf

A supercharged R32, a sleeper? Seriously? I dont think you quite understand what a sleeper is.

Now, a 1.4 Golf with standard steel wheels and hidden exhaust, but with a supercharged R32 engine, thats a sleeper.

I'm quite up for a Mk4 Fiesta with a Zetec turbo lump in it, running on steels. It's do'able, just have to find the time, space and money.

Yes, nothing says "sleeper" like massive alloys, twin exhausts and a bulbous set of arches.

Not an advert, but did encounter a pretty cracking sleeper as a nipper [quite] a few years back.

Two lads in a very tidy gold Mk II Escort (1.6 Ghia, no less - even had the red vinyl roof) crept alongside me at a set of lights - I was in a slightly tweaked Mk I Mexico.

A quick look over, all looks standard, I assume he's in his mum's car, lights change, off we go - not breakneck, but not slouching, Ghia hanging back.

10 seconds or so in and I'm quietly pulling away, no stress, smiles all round, all is good in the world. Suddenly, there's an audible rorrrttt from behind - WTHF ???. Quick glance in the mirror and see the Escort's front popping up like it's had a cattle prod up its jacks and then he's past me like I'm stopped. And he kept going, and going, and going - with a phenomenal engine note that just didn't get any quieter..

Finally caught up with him at another set of lights, windows down for a chat (good lads) and turned out he had it fitted with a tuned BDA engine - engine alone must have been worth many times the value of the car.

OK, not high powered by today's standards, but a rocket sled on wheels back then - and very, very cool..

I quite like this but not sure if it's potent enough for the OP...I'm trying to think of excuses to feed the missus so I can have it. Space is the main problem....Ho hum....

I've no doubts that would be an epic conversion (And I think the facelift TF's are nice looking things!) but that is an insane amount of cash, absolutely insane.

Would love to have the skills to take on a project like that myself but I couldn't justify spending £11k+ modifying an MGTF...

Mate of mine many years ago had a scabby Mk1 Fiesta, but with a tuned engine about 120 bhp if i remember, would scare a few cossie's in its day as weighted bugger all.

Sounds like an ex girlfriend, she was a bit of a slapper as I recall.

These are my idea of sleepers, standard cars that look like cooking models with big engines:

I love sleepers but get annoyed with threads on sleepers as people insist on offering up examples of cars that are clearly pretty quick to begin with, but have been made a bit quicker. Regular as clockwork, the very first post offers up a Golf R32. What next, a standard looking R34 Skyline with the boost whacked up? And no 'sleeper' thread is complete without some limited-edition variant of an Impreza that's 0.5 seconds quicker to 60 than a normal STI.

Yup.
Can I be first to mention Q car?
Edit: just want to throw it in there to start the debate.

Absolutely this.

This is the closest I've ever had, and I'd argue not strictly a sleeper. A good bit over 300whp with a low ratio 'box. Utterly ridiculous once you got going.
