Missed this last night. Looks a good one for catch up on iplayer.
Was worth the watch.

If only for the once-in-a-lifetime occurrence of agreeing with Galloway.
Gorgeous George is without doubt an entertainer whose appeal can be measured in units of Trumpton.

I'm not with Hislop on the politics but again I tend to watch his programmes as he too is entertaining.

Hislop, whose intellect I appreciate in general, must be particularly hacked off because back in 1997 on HIGNFY he, and the crew of lefties with him, were banging on about how "Things can only get better" a la D:Ream (and constantly playing and re-playing snatches from it) just prior to the general election that put Blair into office. Just look how their choice turned out!

Ah, remember those days. The Tories had too many fingers in the till, Neil Hamilton was everywhere, John Major refused advice and lost an election with one of the strongest economies in modern history.

So much hope in the country..........

The Week was good as well.

Portillo dismissing Djalili's argument from 38m10s was very satisfying.

It was awful. How Tony Blair managed to win 3 elections I'll never know.

David Lammy is such a lightweight.
Well, not literally.
If he'd started to look up at the ceiling before saying something I'd have commented that Diane's facial hair wasn't that well hidden this time.

MP steamrollered that comedian fella hehe
Djalili didn't have an answer to that, did he? It's just more Momentum, patronising right-on nonsense that is always right and anyone with an alternative view is a fascist or establishment stooge.
Nope - he started to stutter somewhat.

Portillo was ace. You don't bang heads with an intellect like that unless you are very well prepared.

Odd that the discussion on marches (and their inevitable effectiveness if done enough) never mentioned the pro-hunting demo of the same era. Wonder why?

I liked Omid Djalili until he referred to the fellow guest as 'Portillo' - a little blunt and maybe rude (when all he'd asked him was to justify his reasoning).

THis QT was the best for ages, everyone was respectful, even though Falconer was still plying the same old schtick, he was subdued and half-hearted, like even he didn't really have the energy to keep up the charade...and considering the whole panel were aligned not with him, it's easy to see why.
George and Hislop were great, Lib Dem chairman was decent too, as was tory.
No one shouted over or acted like a child, and we had the best audience member for years.

Great job!

Smiler.

Erm, it's a really odd feeling.

We live in strange times.

It was certainly interesting. The first one, and the second, one can see why, a varied combo; country tired of tory sleaze, Blair shifted the ground, torys imploded...I guess that Presidential huge advantage he got in '97 allowed him to coast through that war fiasco and that weakened final win.

What a change civil grown up debate without the jumping up and down and mud slinging. Even the audience despite being in brighton were intelligent civil and not mad raving loonies well apart from that confused guy.

I don't agree with Galloway political side but hes bang on with everything hes says and has always stuck to is belief, tory guy was very calm and level headed, lib dem was to be expected but stated some good points hislop looked pissed off at everything which was said.

Hopefully now the referendum is over we can have a much better show as a result.

TBH though labour sleeze reached Tory levels in their 1st term and yet it's always 'Tory sleeze' confused

In relationship to the question posited, it was a factor. biggrin
Tony now doesn't have a great legacy, and his name, far above Major's is a byword for sliminess.

Yet another (like we needed any more) example of why comedians should stick to being comedians, instead of adopting the Citizen Smith persona on political debate programmes.

'Portillo' destroyed him using simple maths and logic.

^ This.

Omid Djalili was so far out of this depth - it was embarrassing.

I don't think he's been the same since Oliver Reed grabbed his balls in Gladiator
