Isil terrorists are plotting to carry out biological and nuclear attacks on Britain and Europe, EU and Nato security chiefs have warned.

There is a “justified concern” that Islamist fanatics in Syria and Iraq are trying to obtain substances of mass destruction such as biological, chemical and radiological weapons.

The terror group is also trying to develop new ways of avoiding security measures to carry out attacks such as bombs implanted in human bodies and hacking driverless cars, an international security conference in London heard.

Weren't you suggesting delivery with a drone though?

And this is news because....? Surely it's been entirely obvious from day 1 that 'they' have been and will continue to be actively trying to get their hands on WOMD, until one or other of us is dead.

What would be more interesting (and potentially concerning) is exactly how successful they have been in obtaining such weapons; I suspect that information is rather more classified, however.

Well known long term threat, and has been taken VERY seriously for more than ten years in British Army EOD units.

There are two artics crammed full of mitigation/containment kit on permanent standby at a location I won't disclose, along with the teams trained to use it. Lots of exercises conducted in preparation for such an event too. Some at unit level dealing with practical skills to use the gear, some 'multi-agency' full blown deployment exercises.

Those who mock, and talk of "tinfoil hats" would soon change their minds if they had seen even a small portion of the intel on this subject.

"They" WILL do all they can to circumvent intelligence and countermeasures, and to come up with new and ingenious methods of making security forces and civilians explode. The worst part of that is that, until their new methods are studied and countered, "they" are one step ahead of the development of tactics and equipment being deployed to counter the threats. Sometimes, when the threat becomes very technology orientated, and all eyes are on complex countermeasures, the scrotes revert to simple stuff, like a hand grenade lobbed over a perimeter fence.

Remember the old IRA quote, too...

IRA spokesman after the Brighton bombing said:
“Today we were unlucky, but remember we only have to be lucky once – you will have to be lucky always.”
..."they" will always be plotting. But in a country of 70 million people, or a capital city of 10 million, in the event of a conventional terror attack you'd have to be VERY unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But "they" are probably not targeting YOU. Their principle targets are often too closely protected, and therefore difficult to attack, so they satisfy themselves with slaughtering innocents and filling the front pages of newspapers in the aftermath. It's currently unlikely that anywhere is going to see a stolen nuclear warhead detonated in a multi-megaton city-destroying blast, but there's rather more radioactive material in circulation than you'd be comfortable knowing about. Granted, it's closely guarded for the most part, and accounted for through it's whole life, but these "dirty bombs" and biological agents of death are not science fiction, they are very real threats to security both here and elsewhere.

See anything suspicious? Report it. It may seem daft to you, but it could just be the key piece in the intelligence jigsaw that foils another plot we'll never hear about.

Having said all that...

I assume this would be a "dirty bomb" rather than fission/fusion, not what many people think of when someone says Nuclear Attack, but very nasty and a lot easier to do.

What I find surprising by this group of evil masterminds / goat fanciers is just how much organisation people seem to think they have, given their results outside of the middle east have been insignificant. Now I know the attacks in Europe were a massacre but they seem to be easily foiled, infiltrated and stopped once started.

The west is relatively free, and their are soft targets all over the place. I just cannot understand how there hasn't been some form of attack here without the view that they're not a present threat to the public in the west and stories like this are just a waste of time.

If they were regularly planting simple bombs in the UK, then I'd be more worried that they'd be able to up the yield. However, until then - rubber dinghy rapids bro

Instantly killing you and permanently taking out cities. hehe

Pretty horrific - apparently there is footage of ISL using cheaply bought drones (anywhere online) with the objective of flying them over western cities and spraying the weapons grade or medical grade or energy grade uranium which will instantly kill thousands and then the generations of said cities being uninhabitable and the high cancer cases following attacks.

Are we getting close to a Black Swan event? Say London is taken out permanently simply how would we retaliate and how could we live?

So what intel have you seen, yellowjack? If you had seen any, you would not be posting about it on here.

I guess the worry is, there have never, as far as I know, been any terrorist organisation as wealthy as IS, and money talks.

I think it is only a matter of time before those looney Islamic idiots do carry out a major attack. It honestly bloody well scares me who fanatical they are. Paris was beyond shocking. It has put us off going to Europe.
I am forever grateful for the excellent work that the likes of M16/GCHQ do on a daily basis to help prevent any attacks. God know what they have stopped from happening so far.

That's the one and I linked the news link at the end of the thread - after which noone challenged or posted silly pics.

Far more chance of you dying on the roads driving there. More chance of your boat sinking or your plane crashing getting you there. And I would probably avoid any DIY if I were you...
