The term legend gets over used but he really was.
I recorded this in 85 and watched it so many times I wore the tape out : Purple Rain tour, in Syracuse.

Great shame, mad as a box of frogs but a genuine talent and mega-star.
Amongst all the showmanship and flamboyance it's often overlooked that he was a superb guitarist, he deserved much more recognition for his playing skills than he got.
Agreed. He was a great musician and showman, and more than a little mad.Amongst all the showmanship and flamboyance it's often overlooked that he was a superb guitarist, he deserved much more recognition for his playing skills than he got.
A pretty crap year to date for us to lose some good people, it's only just got started too.
Being born in 1970, his music was part of my teens, so loved his it. On the mad as a box of frogs comments, I remember him receiving some award, Brit awards or some such, whatever was going in the 80's, and him coming up to the podium flanked by several of his massive bodyguards.
Proper talent, with the uniqueness that makes people like him stars.
