The term legend gets over used but he really was.

I recorded this in 85 and watched it so many times I wore the tape out : Purple Rain tour, in Syracuse.

A true musical genius.
Agreed. Up there with Bowie, in more ways than one.

I feel old and everything's st.

Great shame, mad as a box of frogs but a genuine talent and mega-star.

Amongst all the showmanship and flamboyance it's often overlooked that he was a superb guitarist, he deserved much more recognition for his playing skills than he got.
Agreed. He was a great musician and showman, and more than a little mad.

Favourite memory of his music.....

Walking around a large supermarket which was playing one of his albums as background music....

and the uncensored "sexy Mother-F****r" track playing in the background....

Don't you mean "the former artist known as Prince"?

A genuine shout at the TV moment. One of the best performers I've ever seen. I remember when he 'landed' on Britain, and we all thought he was weird. All his bodyguards and such. Boy, did we underestimate him.
R.I.P . Prince, we'll miss you.

genuine tears here, only just heard.

Prince Rogers Nelson was a one-off.

A musical, production and performance genius all rolled into someone barely 5 foot tall.

A huge part of my teenage years has died.

RIP

Totally shocked and saddened by this.

I must admit I wasn't really "into" his music, but he was clearly a massively talented musician and I have always been deeply impressed with his guitar work.

57 is no age, either.

A pretty crap year to date for us to lose some good people, it's only just got started too.

Being born in 1970, his music was part of my teens, so loved his it. On the mad as a box of frogs comments, I remember him receiving some award, Brit awards or some such, whatever was going in the 80's, and him coming up to the podium flanked by several of his massive bodyguards.

Proper talent, with the uniqueness that makes people like him stars.
