Wow, just wow. This has genuinely shocked me. frown

Can't believe this, Prince was my idol back in the late eighties when I was growing up, I spent 10 years listening to everything he put out, he was very much the soundtrack of my life from 16.

I don't think people know just how talented he was, he didn't just play guitar, he played everything and wrote songs for so many other artists.

I thought Prince would be releasing music online into his 90s.

fk. RIP. weeping

One of THE musical geniuses of my generation. Wrote and performed some amazing pieces of music and lyrics.

Shocked and saddened.

A pretty crap year to date for us to lose some good people, it's only just got started too.

Being born in 1970, his music was part of my teens, so loved his it. On the mad as a box of frogs comments, I remember him receiving some award, Brit awards or some such, whatever was going in the 80's, and him coming up to the podium flanked by several of his massive bodyguards.

Proper talent, with the uniqueness that makes people like him stars.
Came on stage and quietly uttered just three words... 'Thanks to God', and walked off. The Press didn't know what to make of it! laugh

Great shame, mad as a box of frogs but a genuine talent and mega-star.

Amongst all the showmanship and flamboyance it's often overlooked that he was a superb guitarist, he deserved much more recognition for his playing skills than he got.
Indeed, and this one of my favourite clips - from the George Harrison Hall Of Fame concert - Prince shredding the solo like few others can.

I heard just after 6pm ... just shocking frown. Many of my favourite artists are now dead ... I can't stand the modern, autotuned, distorted crap that the kids listen to these days ... I must be getting old.

Saw him at the O2 a few years back, without a doubt the best concert I have been to, incredible musician. One of the best, I can't believe he's gone.

I am truly shocked by this. Ever since Diamonds and Pearls as a kid I have been well into Prince. The purpleaxxe, the NPG, Rosie Gaines, the showmanship, the soul, sexiness, dirty lyrics and electronic sounds........
He was no ordinary fella......
The Prince is dead, long live the Prince!

He had a 'flu' bug apparently - is there something serious going around? We all get flu bugs but they normally don't end up finishing you off at 57 years old. He'd been trying to fight it off for some weeks. Taken to hospital as an emergency. Was released after just 3 hrs and carried on with a gig next day.

Only good that might come out of all this sad life endings is an end to the perpetual soundbite that 'We're ALL living longer'.
Some may be, not 'all'.

RIP

Had not seen that before, more tears

My brother just sent me this, Prince doing Radiohead's Creep at Coachella in 2008.

Was going to mention this clip but beaten to it.

I may be a bit older than several on this thread possibly and Prince sort of passed me by, different musical tastes and all that, though this concert was the one in which he earned my total respect, especially with breaking a string early on in the video.

I then did a bit of research and realised how very talented he was.

RIP

His flight the other night made a diversion due to his "flu" - my guess is either cardiac or pneumonia. I liked a few of his tracks but not my scene really. Sad at such an age!

Just pure musical genius.

I predict he will be the highest earning musician in thd history of the business over the next generation.

Such a shame, he was just so bloody cool.
