PwC partner banned for 15 years over BHS audit

Telegraph said:
A former partner at PwC has been banned from audit work for 15 years and hit with a half a million pound fine over his auditing of BHS’s accounts before it was sold by Sir Philip Green for £1.

Steve Denison was slapped with the fine by the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) in relation to the standard of the collapsed retailer’s audit for the year to Aug 30 2014.

PwC was also hit with a record £10m penalty over the inquiry. This is biggest sanction imposed by the accountancy regulator in its history. Both PwC and Mr Denison had their penalties reduced, to £6.5m and £325,000 respectively, after agreeing to settle early.
Fines?

How is someone not in prison?

"The man who bought BHS for £1 must pay £124,000 for not providing documents about the collapsed department store's pension schemes, a judge has ruled.

The Pensions Regulator (TPR) asked Dominic Chappell three times for data about the sale and failure of BHS.

Mr Chappell failed in his appeal against his conviction from January and was sentenced again at Hove Crown Court today."

I wonder if he wrote to the regulator in the same way Humphrey did in a similar case?

“However, the brewery owner, Humphrey Smith, 73, wrote back and dismissed the request as “tiresome”.

In his letter to TPR, he said: “We are in receipt of your tiresome letter and we are not prepared to divulge the information to your organisation.”

“ Ex-BHS owner Dominic Chappell has been jailed for six years after evading tax on the £2.2million of income he made from a £1 deal to buy the failed high street chain off Philip Green.

Instead of paying the tax he knew was due, Chappell, 53, spent a fortune on a luxury lifestyle which included a £90,000 yacht, a Bentley Continental car, a Bahamas holiday and some expensive Beretta guns, Southwark Crown Court heard.”

Interesting that the crime wasn’t directly associated with the bhs company, but with his own company that seems to have been used specifically to siphon money into his bin

The amount owed to HMRC at the time the company went into liquidation was <£600k

So 6 years is quite a whack
