Is it still worth avoiding on the way down and back again?

The bridge is back open, if thats what you mean.

Part of the whole trip is getting stuck in the traffic by the railyards.

Yvetot route for me. So much prettier than the Rouen route and we timed it at 13 mins difference last year.

Cons of the Rouen Route...

Traffic, city view.

Pros...

The tunnel.

Pros of the Yvetot route...

Routes Departmentalles.

The view.

You decide... Yvetot for me.

We travelled down on the Weds last year, getting to Rouen around 2-3pm, and didn't encounter anything like the apocalyptic traffic that's usually predicted. We probably spent about 10min in crawling traffic by the railway yards, but tunnel blasting more than made up for that!

We're taking in the Pont due Brotonne this year for a change of scenery, but I wouldn't have any concerns about going via Rouen.

We stop in Rouen on the Tuesday night. Never fails to be a good night out, Ruby Lieff and roadside pizza with the locals. Only trouble we had was when the taxi drivers had an Uber strike one morning and crawled round the ring road. I also took a wrong turn last year so we visited some lovely back street haulage depots.

You can always take the more scenic route this side of the river in Rouen and join the autoroute 1 or 2 junctions further down than if you use the railway yard road it's not as busy and has less traffic lights on it. smile

Make sure you take the correct exit after the tunnel though else you end up stuck on the middle island of the river frownbiggrin

If you're going via Yvetot and using an archaic satnav you can leave the autoroute a junction or two too early and discover some lovely twisty roads that spit you out at the base of the bridge.....

We slipped through the main route through Rouen at around 7.30am on the Friday last year. Not one jot of trouble.
