New Star Trek TV series
Discussion
No connection to the new films
Not available on normal TV nor is it getting a DVD release (apparently)
Starts filming late this year for a January 2017 release.
Will be streamed and only available at one episode a week, so no binge watching. Mixed feelings about this, also no word of how the UK gets to watch it! I guess it has to be better than Enterprise!
Yes it is all official/cannon etc.

After getting into Enterprise, which was epic and then it being ceremoniously canned too soon I vowed not to get into any other series. Then Lost happened, and I vowed never go get into any other series. Then Heroes happened and I vowed never to get into any other series. But then something beautiful happened, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Narco's and Suits and then the surprise of all surprises, the return of Heroes which has been brilliant. So I'll probably watch this then hate myself for it afterwards.

Well whatever you do never watch Firefly...essayer said:
I wonder when it will be set.. Between Star Trek 6 and TNG perhaps? Or into completely new territory, post Voyager/Nemesis..
The rumours so far have been post ST6, pre TNG. From a writing perspective that uneasy peace with the Klingons is just ripe ground for some good Trek episodes (lest we forget in Trek lore it wasn't until the Enterprise C defended a Klingon colony, about fifty years after ST6:TUC that the UFP>Klingon Alliance was a workable reality). While I enjoy the JJ Trek films to a certain extent (fun on one viewing, I find less so the more you watch) I'm very glad they are picking up back in the 'Prime' universe. There are a lot of stories still to tell there if you ask me.

Enterprise was fantastic apart from that last episode........actually I hate you both for reminding me about it
As an episode I had no huge issue with it. As the final episode it has only been beaten by the final episode of Lost for being poor. Are we safe in this thread to admit to being a far bigger Trek fan than Star Wars?
I was looking out for rumours of this. I was actually hoping it would be set post voyager\nemesis. While I'll watch nearly any ST stuff (except for Enterprise) I can't help but feel they've trodden that part of the timeline too much and just wish they've moved past that period into something new.
We've seen hints of the possible future events in some episodes with future Enterprise's and Time Travel etc. I think a series based on the timeship\time travel aspects could be interesting. It would give them a chance to move past the current story-lines but still give them access to all the previous ST history.

A series from an alien perspective could be good. For example, Klingons or Ferengi. If the budget isn't there they could do the Romulans. We've seen hints of the possible future events in some episodes with future Enterprise's and Time Travel etc. I think a series based on the timeship\time travel aspects could be interesting. Or Vulcans? I think that might be quiet an interesting premise.Further to that, due to the events in the new movies, the Vulcan's are now an endangered species. Is this now cannon? If so does this mean none of the events in the ST movies, TNG, DS9 or Voyager will now happen?

This new series will, we have been led to believe, be set in the Prime universe, i.e. the one we know as having the adventures from TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY, so no JJverse where Kirks father is killed on the Kelvin and Vulcan is destroyed a few decades later. This main, original universe has been 'running' in book form since 2009 when a new timeline was created by Abrams et and CBS (who control the rights of TV Trek content) seem happy to pursue a series set here rather than the new JJ movie universe.Further to that, due to the events in the new movies, the Vulcan's are now an endangered species. If that's clear! LOL

I can't wait till they do the crossover episode where they travel to the alternate JJVerse (great name)

It could be from the time when Klingons looked like this....Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
