Ok,

So I have had a search hoping to find a straight replacment for the flapper unit, but as yet no luck. Can some kind soul please enlighten me on what options are available. Or if there is a good web site that I can have a look at. It would be appreciated.

Thanks chadders

You mean the air flow meter?

Standard AFM was from an SD1 / Classic Range Rover etc IIRC

Whats wrong with the old one?...You can sometimes find them on fleabag but make sure all the numbers match on the black plastic cap and on the sticker...You would be better off if its faulty to send it to a re-manufacturer depending where you live....

Has it been tested?

You'll have to check with someone like Mark Adams to make sure the outputs match what your ECU is used to off the old one.

There was an Audi or two that used a derivative of the same injection system however they must be as rare as hens' teeth-encrusted unicorn horns by now.
Certain Jaguars used a derivative also; the ECU was known as the 6CU and the AFM has a larger bore so will hinder high-speed airflow less - thus is often used in higher power RV8 installations. However as the standard AFM has been shown to be perfectly adequate for over 250bhp there's little point in fitting the Jag unit to a cooking 3.5L.

I had my afm refurbished and it only lasted just over 12 months and i only did 3000 miles on it so was well peed off. I got a second hand one for £70 quid and its been on the car for 3 years now. So i would try the second hand route first as its miles cheaper.

Early MX5's had a very similar one, but don't know if it was the same.

Thanks for all the info, it had been pushing out black smoke so running a bit rich but yesterday took it to work and now sounds like I am running on 7 cylinders.

Time to get the tools out. Win win all round

Black smoke?...

1. Is this a 350i?...
2. What fuel regulator does it have?...
3. Does it stall under load at high revs ?...
4. What is your idle....
5. What spark plugs do you have?...
6. What is the timing set to?...
7. What fuel grade do you put in?...
8. How old are the plug leads?
9. How old is the rotor arm?
10. Does the black smoke smell oily or like petrol?
