I like the first (it's gen 1 so understand the engine's reputation)
I prefer the second (it costs an engine rebuild more than the first but benefits from alcantara)
I don't like the seats or steering wheel on the third.

Only based on a quick flick through the pics.

Thank you for the replies and comments so far.

So I guess I’m asking in terms of price vs mileage vs is it worth 10k more to go gen 2. The Gen 2 Cayman looks nice but un-sure if it’s quite high mileage for the price advertised.

Thanks,
Phil

If you can afford it, I'd go for the gen2. It'll also be cheaper to tax!

why don't you just run the Spyder now it has a secure roof ?

not sure why you would want to run about in a £20k car when you have a £90k car to use.
The only reason I liked the new Spyder was I can see it more as a daily over the older one.

Just drive the car you have just bought for the summer, and if you feel like you want a winter car get a Fiesta ST for £15k

Has anyone got any experiences of going from Gen 1 to Gen 2? I am guessing most are saying Gen 2 due to the engine issues of the Gen 1 that could happen?

Thanks,

Phil

I respect most things Moose has to say, but I don't think anyone else on the planet places as much importance on extended leather in the Boxster/Cayman family. In the 986, yes, I concede, it makes a big difference (and mine even had leather on the roll hoops, for a luxury collision experience). However, the 987 is a much nicer place to sit generally, which to me makes it less important. Things like sports seats, PCM 3.0, Bose, are more important in terms of interior ambience to me.

That said, I think it is worth moving to the .2 - the 2010 car in your selection - as it is hands-down the better motor. Values seem pretty firm as well, so even though you're spending extra, it's a reasonably good value-for-money experience through life.

Any Cayman is a spectacular bargain.
