Yes of course many voted based on immigration. SO WHAT? They exercised their right to express an anger at something that affects them. That's not unhealthy in the slightest.
The real issue here is that a lot of people have nothing against EU immigration and free movement of labour, but appeared to think that voting out would stop Muslims coming here.

Many, many people were ill informed and didn't have a clue what they were voting for and are only now waking up to the reality that they voted the wrong way.
You have posted some absolute tosh over the last few weeks, you've just tunneled out the basement into the sewer this time! Well done.

If you want to see pig ignorant and ill-informed, just look in a mirror.
The Referendum vote was mainly about sovereignty, trade and uncontrolled immigration from the EU. Nothing to do with religion - however I do understand some will misunderstand, it is now up to our leaders to make a strong speech to reassure the British public (esp including all EU citizens) and the Britons resident in the EU that life carries on, and we must carry on living in peace.

Your opinion.

Meanwhile, in the real world, anyone who looks a bit foreign or has a foreign name is now living with the apprehension they'll be shouted at in the street, abused and be told to go home.

This is the reality - Farage drove this campaign on hate and fear - so it's no surprise that a small, but very vocal and significant proportion of people now believe racism has been legitimised by the vote.

It's a very sad day - we used to be one of the most tolerant and welcoming nations in the world.

You have no idea. Someone posted the below earlier, and for a change Owen Jones has got the right idea. Have a read and try to understand where he's coming from.

We continue to be beacon of hope and all things good - this local difficulty will resolve itself.

Agreed. Have you seen the pound?
Started at 1.49 and just dropped through 1.3e against the dollar.
The Nikkei is down 7% as well.
Scary st!
Why is it scary?

Really?

When the stock market opens, buy some shares. Yesterday, shares in London yielded 4.5%. Today, they might yield 5%.

If the pound stays down, then our exports will become cheaper, and we might be able to build up a manufacturing base again.
It is bad form to blow one's own trumpet, but anyone who took my advice on Friday morning could have made 6% in a day!

He's backing up what I'm saying! - we've lurched to the right. Yes, he's saying we need to work out why this happened and not try to marginalise those who did vote leave... but there is a very strong racist uprising in the UK which seems to be snowballing on the back of the result.

Britain First, the EDL etc., all feel legitimised by the result and feel they now have 17 million silent supporters behind them.

Get out and see the wider world to understand how extremely tolerant and welcoming we are.

Blimey - I don't think I've ever agreed with anything he's ever said before, but I do agree with most of that !

You have my word that if "anybody" abuses "anybody else" in my presence I shall stop it in any way I can.... so only 16,999999 may be silent but don't include me in your lies.

For me it was, at least; and others I suspect. Just the left failing to understand again.

I generally find your country to be very welcoming and tolerant. The only people who make me feel unwelcome are people like you. Being labelled a thick, ignorant, bigotted old racist makes me feel that you would be happier if I didn't live here.

Go on, tell us how happy you are that I came here.

Still feeling smug?

I'm with you mate. I have no issue with anyone currently here resident just doing their best at a job to feed them and theirs. I wasn't a fan of the racist right before, and I'm not now.

I don't see where he put you in the small but very vocal group of people who believe racism is okay now?

I think the 'leave' supporters are burying their heads in the sand over this issue - we need to nip it in the bud now - but whilst there's such denial going on, it'll only allow it to blossom.
