The tyre choices requested by the teams (for rdjohn's iPad sake):
I didn’t know whether to start this immediately or not as some testing is still going on, but here goes anyway.
The Monaco GP is a marmite track with many fans disliking the cramped nature of it, like taking your big saloon car round a karting track. Despite the low overtaking opportunities around this place, qualifying is a big spectacle here due to the bravery required in putting a fast lap in. Also, the high likelihood of somebody stuffing it up the barriers or crashing into another car during the race means that a slower car can luck into a better track position in the ensuing Safety Car period and can hold on to it with good car positioning.
I expect the Mercedes to be absolutely in its element here. Watchout for the Red Bulls, they were only a couple of tenths off the Mercedes in Barcelona Sector 3. I also wouldn’t discount Ferrari too much, as the tyres are the softest in the Pirelli range (UltraSoft making its debut), and if I remember correctly, Ferrari were able to do some impressively long stints on the Ultra Soft tyres during pre-season testing. McLaren should be thereabouts too as fuel saving should be less of an issue.
Hamilton was dominating last year’s race before gifting it to Rosberg during the Safety car period, so this will be a good place start his championship fight back. However, Rosberg will be up for it now I’m sure. It will be fascinating. Some rain is forecast, but it’s too far away from race day to say anything definitive. Hopefully, rain arrives on time for the race to spice it up a bit.

So glad to see Channel 4 has been sensible and not insisted on covering this one live. The highlights is about all I can be bothered to watch, for the 2 overtakes and one crash that usually results.
Last year maybe being a slight exception although I really should have known better than to have got excited wondering if Hamilton would be able to pull an overtake on his warm brand new tyres versus the cold and off-the-cliff ones of the cars in front. Silly me, expecting an overtake at Monaco.

Perhaps he won't get away with it this time and be demoted to the back of the grid, and Max can win again!
I wouldn't actually be surprised to see a Red Bull take pole on merit, their chassis and braking looks impeccable.

I'm hoping the ultra softs will make this race comparatively interesting by Monaco standards. I may be being optimistic.
Williams have been rubbish at Monaco recently. This might free up Ferrari and Red Bull to focus their efforts forward.
I haven't researched this but I've heard great things about Mclarens' mid corner speed and mechanical grip. McLaren's drivers must be two of the most experienced at Monaco on the grid. I'm predicting a double points finish and one McLaren in front of a Ferrari.
I reckon Kvyat is going to fk up. He has to beat Sainz. I notice he took the fastest lap in Spain by over a second. I reckon he's going to try too hard.

And then with Ferrari perhaps better able to manage degradation, this could be a one-off, all-time classic Monaco race.
Dr Z, your header loads much faster for this race, so if you have changed something it definitely works. Hopefully you will also be able to do some analysis of FP2 long runs.

Hamilton is the fastest man on this circuit. Nobody can dispute that.
Hamilton has a point to prove. He's behind and needs a win. He is fast, and motivated.
He's also, under these circumstances, a clumsy fker. He's binning his car this year. Again.
Odds on an Alonso having a mighty tantrum and throwing it into the barriers. Again.
Ricciardo is the man to watch here. I see no reason why he wont be awesome during the whole weekend.

10 days out the Meteo algorithm is heavily biased towards the 10-year average, but gets more accurate the fewer days to actual.

Actually it's very easy to dispute - 9 attempts, 1 pole, 1 win (nearly 2 wins of course with last year's safety car debacle, but luck had something to do with the win in 2008).Because of Senna, Hamilton really really wants to believe and for everyone else to believe he's the quickest in Monaco but I am yet to be convinced.

king it up. Which I very obviously describe in what I said.But when he manages to string a lap together, he's untouchable. He SHOULD be untouchable. But he keeps dropping it. I was very clear about that. Perhaps you missed it?
