Never been before but want to go this year. Have had a look on the website http://www.classicbw.org/?ln=UK

From Houx, which is the best route ?
How long will it take to get there ? (ish....)
When is the best time to go ?
What time is the Parade Des Pilotes ?

Thanks !

The way we always go is through town and take the road going out the other side left hand side road by the cathedral just keeping going straight on that road and you will stumble across it 10 mins outside of town

take about 30 minutes to Saint Saturnin but can take much longer to get into the event if the traffic is bad. the inner ring road D338 will take you there.

It's up to you what time you go but obviously the later in the morning you leave the busier it gets. can get grid locked in and out of the event.

Not sure what time the parade is I personally leave early and always gone before lunchtime, avoiding the worst of the traffic.

If you are coming from the UK you will pass very close to the CBW just north of Le Mans

What time is the Parade Des Pilotes ? 18.30 but my experience is that you will need to be in place about 2 hours before then.

Do go early. Some guys above mentioned the traffic, don't underestimate this. It gets bad, very very bad!! Take your camera (your fancy one if you're so inclined) as there are always loads of very well kept cars there. It is a great event, very relaxed atmosphere. Not that it's important but our group decided not to go this year because, frankly, it is pretty much the same every year and we've been there so many times. But you say it's your first time, so you will enjoy it, no doubt about that smile

If I turn up when it opens at 9, will I be able to get my car out at c.10.30 to head down to Le Mans?
It would be great to drop in on way down from Caen, but I don't want a full morning there stuck in a car park, I need to set up camp and get my first beer on the go.

They are very organised and if you leave at that time it will not be a problem

Arrive early 10.30/11.00 and leave early (just after lunch). You should miss most of the traffic.
You can spend over an hour queuing to get in and out if you catch it wrong.

The drivers parade can follow a few beers in town before you return to the track/tents.

It is a great part of the weekend.

Probably wont bother with GBW this year, last year was a nightmare, no organisation for the traffic in or out. Sat in a queue inside the event not able to get in or out for nearly 2 hours (in the rain) complete waste if time, sorry, not for me.

The back of the queue is often all the way back to the main road, although it moves quickly enough that it would take as long to walk it.

I can't remember where, but I did read somewhere that the organisers are trying to improve this years entry/exit routes.
