So, it's been a few days since 'Monkey' Harris has appeared on our computer screens as an official member of the Top Gear team. Now, don't get me wrong, I too am pretty disappointed with the Sunday night BBC2 programme headed up by the red haired DJ we all love to hate but I'd like to congratulate Chris for getting to the pinnacle of motoring journalism/presenting on the biggest show on the planet. I've followed him online for years and loved his presentation, enthusiasm but above all his ability to rag a car around tracks and private roads....errrhmmm...all over the world. I can't imagine there's many of us who wouldn't want to be in his shoes. I know he's got his haters, when you have that many hits online you're going to get a few, but I'd just like to say....well done Chris, you've done good. smile

Kind words. Love that dude! Good to see him on TV. Hope he makes it onto the main show too!

The spin off show is what I'm likely to watch if top gear is just going to fk about for a hour.

Can i just say that as a non-brit, im pretty annoyed that i can not watch extra gear? iPlayer doesnt work outside the UK, and i dont seem to have any other options. BBC2 is just regular TV here....

Makes sense that you guys keep the good car stuff to yourself and leave us foreigners watching the ginger screamer

You say about a problem hour of them just f**king about, but isn't that what just the old show was about?! I started to get bored of the old show, was just an hour of the three of them having a jolly boys outing , all staged and planned.

This new seems to be no different so far. Top gear as a show needs to balance the entertainment/factual factor a bit better, as watching reliant robins drive down a motorway became a little tedious!

Watched the extra gear and was great to see Harris on there, was an easy watch and cut out all the crap of the usual show and put it in half hour.

There's the internet for technical, though.

This was not meant top be a TG thread, please don't turn it into one. I was purely congratulating Chris on his achievement....so no TG comments please!

+1

His passion for the subject comes through whether he's driving a P1 or a 2CV

I always enjoyed his Youtube videos - they walked the line well between the childish histrionics of some and the smug conceited delivery of others. Must admit that I turned the latest TG off due to aforementioned histrionics from Chris Evans. His genuine enthusiasm for the subject and for cars of all sorts comes across, he would have been a good replacement for Hammond in the original TG line up.

Always found attitudes on here towards Harris a little odd, he's either considered the second coming of Christ and showered with sycophantic arse kissing or a crooked dog felching bd of the first order and savagely criticised for everything he says or does.

so pleased for him. Great presenter and love to watch anything he comes up with. his original review of the f80 m3 is what swayed me to it!

I only became aware of him quite recently possibly with the Singer Porsche piece which I loved. What I like about him is that he is not always trying to be funny or witty. I
gave up watching TG years ago. Chris Harris appears to understand his priorities - motoring journalist first and foremost.

I agree, Harris is a proper car journo turned presenter, and telly (or online telly) needs more of those! Been a fan of his since the Autocar days, or even earlier if you take into account his now somewhat-ironic letter to Performance Car in support of one Jeremy Clarkson

Love Harris' content, he is a proper car nerd and love to quote specs and talk mechanicals which I LOVE!
Missing his online content but I'm looking forward to see how the extra gear thing pans out!

I also regularly see Harris out in public as he lives only a few miles away from me, love seeing his kermet the frog green M3 out on the roads. Always give him a big smile and wave but sadly never reciprocated frown ... (maybe its because I drive an MX-5) getmecoat

On his Nomad video, why did he leave so much slack in the harness? I found it a little surprising as it rendered it pretty useless. Does wearing a harness make filming difficult?

Yup, kudos to Mr Harris for reaching the lofty heights of mainstream TV, I thought his segments where the stand-outs form the first night of "new" Top Gear, actual content and actual driving ability.

If it all comes to naught (possible with the Ginger Whinger in charge) then at least its a massive entry in his CV and excellent audition roll for what I expect to be- Chris Harris on Cars TV show :-)

The question is whether he can last longer than the very short time Ben Collins managed. Ben did about 30 seconds NOT as the Stig on TG(parachute jump into Merc SL) and then just a couple of episodes of Fifth Gear.
