Quite possibly.

If we follow through this could make what thatch did to the miners looks like a kiddies tea party.

Imagine the day it is declared we will mess with the single market and free movement, and the car & aerospace factories upsticks.

Most MPs realise its a total mess.

It is clear that May is not convinced, but she is makng soothing noises to the noisy brexiteers. She will win and engineer an acceptable basis for u-turn, probably by proving by negotiation that exit is not as good as staying and also perhaps using it to modify the course of the EU slightly. Thats why she is so popular.

Gove is promising to leave the single market to make sure he doesn't win I suspect.
Of course we will follow through with it. Democracies don't run on the threat of a few factory owners.

If it's fudged or delayed indefinitely then I imagine the next election will be a blood bath for those Tory MPs responsible.

I'd like to see any politician with a credible chance of being PM saying we will reverse the decision.
I think after a week of reflection if we had a second referendum now, which we won't, the decision would be reversed for them.

BBC were in Scotland yesterday and many people they were talking to up there are now saying they wished they had voted exit.

Funny old world, be careful what you wish for.

How do all the other non eu countries survive?
Not sure that comparison is valid. Other non-eu countries have, for the lack of better word, defined path. They either have treaties/deals in place or trading under WTO is already 'priced-in'. At the moment, nobody knows (if you have any info otherwise, it would be appreciated), which way we will pursue outside EU. Will it be EFTA, WTO, something in between or something completely new. I haven't heard any of the candidates setting up possible scenarios. My worry is that people, as they have for years, underestimate importance of the City as a driver of UK economy.

Democracies don't run on the threat of a few factory owners. They do tend to be heavily influenced by mass unemployment though.

Not sure DC and Rupert Murdoch would agree with that.

Why do they now wish they'd voted exit? The exit side already won confused

Scotland voted for remain, but many are now saying up there they wished they had voted exit. They have got what they want retrospectively but in hindsight would have voted exit at the referendum.

So when May says this below, how do you interpret it?

"After taking a low-key role as a supporter of Remain in the EU referendum, Mrs May made clear she will not attempt to back away from last week's vote to leave the EU, saying "Brexit means Brexit".
She has to say that now.

Do you think politicians sometime say things they may change their mind on later?

I know it didn't happen during the "high integrity" leave campaign, but it does happen.

Its one of the few enjoyable things to watch in the aftermath - the tory party slowly go "oh fck" how do we row back on this without imploding? Gove's half hearted run will ensure the party graviatates towards May who will steer a more considered and stabilising govt.

About time too - I don't particularly like her but in terms of what this country needs next she is 10x the other candidates. Its obvious.

Leadsome is so 3rd rate it is embarrassing that she is even thinking about running. Fox is damaged goods.

This thread should be renamed. "Why are people so angry at first, then defiant, then obtuse, then just stupid when they don't get what they want?"

Hey, just my opinion. Its all relevant to the discussion on the next leader.

It makes sense though, it only annoys you as it is logical and you can see how it may pop the brexit dream to wreck the country.

You are still welcme to your own opinion.

Given the lies and contradictions of the leave campaign, any suggestion its a 'done deal' are just total nonsense - in my view.

It isn't my opinion, I'm quoting what the most likely potential leader has said. If you want to remain defiant and obtuse about it that's fine. It will only lead to more anger when it actually happens. smile

Which leave campaign promises did you believe?

Do you believe in father Christmas?

You do realise she has to say brexit is brexit now, don't you. Just like when brexiters like Hannan could NOT admit freedom of movement might be needed to secure single market access. If that had been widely admitted before the vote as it has now, there would not have been a majority - some of those voting for Farage's poster may have started to smell the false promise.

Ok mate, have it your way. She's obviously lying - as soon as she is elected leader she's going to call another referendum, everybody will vote remain and we will carry on normal jogging. rolleyes

I think I will just agree with you, it seems to make you happy smile
