Getting bored with the "I" word now, and the closely related "S" word. It can properly be applied to Jeremy Corbyn, but is otherwise unhelpful. Sneering, patronising, condescending... I was firmly on the fence for the referendum and genuinely unable to decide which way to vote right up to the point where I entered the voting booth, but if it were re-run now I'd vote Leave gladly, just to avoid being in the same camp as the Remainers on here.
You are free to get bored with whatever you like, and you are free to vote to be different to people on here or elsewhere. I'm free to think that using analogy of grabbing someone's balls to illustrate trade deficit is idiotic.

Quick hint; trade deficit is not loss.
True. But having a multi billion pound trade deficit with the person you are negotiating with means that he has rather more to lose than you do.
Think of it like a dentists chair - - ok, so the dentist has you on your back, your mouth is locked open, and he has pneumatically powered rotational tools poised. You on the other hand can reach out and grab him gently, but firmly by the balls, look him in the eye and give a clear indication that neither of you are going to hurt each other.....
I don't need to use rather idiotic and disturbing analogies, as I understand trade surplus and deficit. I also understand that 44% of our exports are to EU, and 16% of their exports are to UK.

You are, of course, free to use whatever helps in order to get your head around very simple concepts.
I was using a story to help you understand poppet....

Honestly, it really does not take some in the Remain camp long before they start getting abusive does it? Too old, too stupid, too racist.... you guys really know how to win an argument don't you... Oh hang on.....

Given that you seem to need things spelling out for you to a surprising degree, why don't you go away and look at which EU states have most to lose from NOT doing a reasonable deal with the UK.. Then, look at how influential those states are within the EU.
Business sense will win out. 68 billion is no small amount of money. You talk as if all trade will stop. It won't. And whichever way you boil it down, 68 billion is 68 billion.
It's also 68 billion that the EU cannot afford to lose. Obviously we cannot afford to lose our trade with the EU either. That's why we won't be hurting each other.
Please do try to keep some sense of perspective? And less of the abuse please. It's unnecessary.

Rumoured that Leadsom will drop out of the race to be PM imminently which would leave the road clear for May...

Poppet? LOL.

Lets try again. I don't speak for any 'camp'. So, 'you guys' is meaningless. I pointed out that 'trade deficit is not loss'. I'll repeat once again, 'trade deficit' is not 'loss'. No two ways about it.

I don't think that I called anyone 'old, stupid, racist'. I didn't call you an idiot. I do think that using 'ball grabbing' analogy is idiotic. I don't 'talk as if all trade will stop'.

What sense of perspective?
I'm on the record saying that something along Norway agreement seems like the most reasonable scenario given where we are.

And to get back to my original reply to PPP, it still stands. His post about 'trade deficit = loss' demonstrates how little he understands about the trade. Then again he stated that we run trade deficit for goods and services. Demonstrably wrong, once again.

We pay a company £3 billion and they do business here.

I'm sure any business would do business here if there is £3 billion of business being offered?

I'm going to agree with London424, this is fantastic news. You are not paying company £3b, you are telling them that you'll buy their goods. We would, presumably, have to buy those planes anyway, so this is very good news.

I agree too; this is a significant and timely bit of post-Brexit FDI.

Surely every import offsets a potential domestic job and subsequent wealth creation?

If we imported everything we'd have no domestic jobs.
Everything we import is ultimately paid for by exports. The more we import the more we can export and vice versa.

That can't be true.
We will be last in the queue in any deals. Mr Obama has said so.

I imagine there are more than a few incredulous, slack jaws, UK, EU and USA. "Does not compute." (Read: Does not fit our narrative.)

Indeed. One wonders how the Leavers will be able to comprehend how we could set up a deal with a non-EU country while still members of the EU. Surely that was impossible before Brexit?

By the time, if ever(!), the EU had signed the US trade agreement, one thing is for sure, any trade like that Boeing deal would have been far more bureaucratic and vastly more expensive.

So in that respect, it is far better done outside the auspices of the EU regardless.
