Independence for London

If an independent London was able to stay in the EU then there would be no import tariffs from EU countries. There could be when importing from the rest of Britain which would be outside the EU. But I'm sure a trade deal could be done. After all, that's what the Brexiteers have been telling us!
As stated before, does Monaco produce it's own food, water and power? I doubt it, yet they seem to be just about surviving!!!!!!
Have you been? It's not all sunshine and roses, some of it is a pretty stty place tbh.As stated before, does Monaco produce it's own food, water and power? I doubt it, yet they seem to be just about surviving!!!!!!

I have and that's true. But there isn't famine, drought or constant power cuts. Well not that I saw. Somehow, they are managing to get food, water and power despite the lack of farms, reservoirs or power stations. I suspect they import them.

Independence, perhaps not.
Further devolution, rules that apply to London and not the rest of the U.K. Maybe.
More autonomy, more of the taxes generated in London spent on London.
I think you might just be taking this thread a bit too seriously.....Further devolution, rules that apply to London and not the rest of the U.K. Maybe.

London is nearly double the size of some regions of the UK who have their own assembly, and many times larger than some others. Because some king who died 800 years ago killed another king? Hardly relevant in this day and age.
Symbolic sops to people's fancies is easy stuff though. The tricky stuff is of course money. If London keeps more of the tax raised in London, who is going to either:
a) replace it? or
b) not get to spend it?
We have national expectations about the standards of living and public services we expect in the UK, which requires redistribution of wealth from richer areas to poorer ones.
From a practical sence, that makes Unionism preferable, as there's a larger area to distribute across.
But I can see why Londoners have a sore spot.

Without London, you lot would be scavenging for roots.
....and after you've served your sentence working in The City, many will want to retire to all that pleasant countryside, the rolling hills, streams and mountains full of fresh air. No doubt all that is readily available in London.Robertj21a said:

Londoner has potato. Mayor takes. Is sad.
Imagine how much we could charge for every tonne of flour, rice and decaf sent in to a city with almost zero agriculture.
Rice and decaf? Organically grown in villages all over UK? Yes, it would be really hard for London to just import those from wherever. I guess people in Singapore are starving and getting really nervous as they can't get their coffee. The food thing is easy - think WW2.
Step 1 : blow up a lot of buildings.
Step 2 : divide the empty blocks into allotments
Step 3 : grow veggies, raise chooks & rabbits.
As a bonus, just imagine the material for threads about how other people misuse their allotment, pinch your veggies, park their barrow on your path, etc.

Lol, newsflash, things have moved since WW2. Half of the food from the weekly shop is from outside UK. I doubt that it would be any hardship to source all from outside. Step 1 : blow up a lot of buildings.

But think how fit and healthy you would all be if you grew your own The WW2 reference is probably more in tune with brexiters, but call it 'artisan' food for that London image, mark it up 500%, and you would make a killing.
More buzz phrases - 'single origin', 'heritage variety', 'sustainably grown' ...
Serve raw turnip slices on an authentic London housebrick for the ultimate dining experience.
