If Scotland gets another referendum because they don't want to be dragged out of the EU against their will, why can't we have the same in London.
We've voted overwhelmingly in favour of staying in. I'm pretty sure we could go it alone. I suspect the wealth generated in London subsidises most of the rest of the country anyway. I feel I have more in common with Parisians, Berliners etc than I do with the good folk of Burnley.
So what about it Londoners? Let's get out and leave the rest of the UK to it.
I can't tell if you're being serious or not, but have you considered that an independent London would have a land border with the UK and only the UK? Or that all the military power resides outside of London? The rest of the country would shut you off and starve you out and it's a long way for Scotland to come to your rescue. We've voted overwhelmingly in favour of staying in. Given Heathrow is owned by a corporate in Spain.
So what? They still pay huge rates of council tax to L.B. Hillingdon, and employ thousands of people. Lots of London's major employers and wealth creators are European. London can be a haven for them given the rest of the country has rejected Europe. We might have European owned business from other areas in the UK relocating to London! Fantastic. BMW Mini can move from Cowley Oxford to Cowley nr Uxbridge. Even better for an independent London.

What a stupid idea. where would 'your' border be? And what access would you have to the roads and rail links outside of that. Just for starters. Idiocy built on presumption and self-importance. Why don't you just catch a plane to Europe while you can and not come back? We've voted overwhelmingly in favour of staying in. I'm pretty sure we could go it alone. Love how personally non SE people are taking this tongue in cheek thread.I think it more shows how fragile London's economy is. London needs to attach itself to something bigger and more international to survive. But is thwt necessarily a good thing?
Of course, if the UK was an engineering and exporting powerhouse london would be all too happy to attach itself to that and that alone and make a stand against the rest of Europe.
If the North and the regions and the manufacturing base were strong all would be well in UK plc. If anything good can come out of this maybe it will be the UK pulling together as one, prioritising its own people, giving opportunities and social mobility to our next generation and putting the UK back on the map economically speaking. Not sure if the prospect of leaving the union prevents or allows that but lbviously 51% of the population are not in a good place.

How very magnanimous of you. Whatever you think of the vote it was democracy in action. Desiring a splintered England absolutely flies in the face of that as far as I am concerned. A very short sighted approach – traitorous really. We've voted overwhelmingly in favour of staying in. I'm pretty sure we could go it alone. I'm a Londoner and find the idea laughable.
I do not understand how it as come about that some would place greater importance in their relationship with an external, artificially imposed government than their own countrymen. London relies on the rest of the UK for it's existence, power, transport links, workers, industry..... The rest of the country relies on London to do it's part in facilitating those mechanisms. We are intertwined through centuries of shared experiences and endeavours.
Brexiteers have not rejected France or Sweden or Germany, they have rejected the E.U organisation and concept as it exists currently. I am dismayed but not surprised how the E.U organisation has sown the seed of its own importance in the minds of some people.

How do people get in and out of Monaco, San Marino, Luxemburg, Liechtenstein? I'd imagine it would work something like that.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
