Rome/Italy in October
Discussion
The OH has always wanted to go to Rome with me (she's been before). Due to schedules etc. October is looking good for a week's break.
Does anyone have any recommendations and advice?
Hotels, locations etc.
Either that or the Almafi coast, which I suspect will be much more expensive.
I know nothing about Italy aside from it's where my bikes were made!
Cheers

First of all - go! Italy, every bit of it I've seen, is fabulous.Does anyone have any recommendations and advice?

Second - go as soon as you can after the school holidays. The prices will be lower and the weather still okay. As September progresses the weather deteriorates.
Thirdly - if you're going to go to Sorrento, as suggested above, take industrial strength mosquito repellent. I have never been so bitten as when in Sorrento.
See if you can make it a multi-centre break. Rome, Florence, Lake Garda for example. It will give you a taste of what is on offer. But You could as easily make it a 50 centre break and see 50 different aspects of the country.
Prepare yourself for falling in love with the country. I's mad, beautiful and addictive. I have to go back at least annually.
ditto 13m.
Wife and I have been going to Italy every year since 2005. Always a different place (although we have stayed in Ravello on the Amalfi Coast for a week three times!), always outside of school holiday time, usually in September or occasionally in May. Magic country loads of culture , beautiful sights etc.
One piece of advice from me: because Italy has many visitors, the centres of all the well know tourist towns can get very busy all day, so we usually opt for a hotel not in the centre but not far off. Oh, and also we go for 4 star hotels because the star ratings tend to be optimistic in Italy generally we have found and 3 stars can be pretty basic.
