"May has asked every cabinet minister, most of whom campaigned to remain in the EU, to set out how Brexit could be a success in their areas, and will be expecting them to report back on Wednesday."
Good article. Interesting to have some insight into the process being followed and some of the politics. http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/aug/30/di...

Chuka Umunna agrees with me that Brexit means Brexit is meaningless!

lot of closed minds out there.
Do you sense any irony in that?It isn't me who is suggesting he knows what the outcome will be. I'm suggesting that I don't know, yet I'm the one with the closed mind? I'm saying that May has not been definitive and I have no idea what she intends. Others reckon they know her mind. I'm posting alternatives that are suggested by well regarded commentators in industry and in academia, an I'm the one with a closed mind because I'm the one suggesting that all options are open.
My choice in reading about the exit is catholic. I get the feeling that all posters on here do not follow me.
It wasn't me who said that the Government is going to work as a team for the best interests of the nation, based on nothing. It was me who suggested that they will act in exactly the same way they’ve acted in the past.
Does anyone really believe that Fox and Davies, with their new ministries, are not planning to try and snatch some facets of Johnson’s because they are after the aggrandisement that comes with more staff? We have the big meeting at the fairly big house today. Who reckons that Fox won’t be saying, in effect, ‘Please, Miss, Johnson’s got more than his fair share.’?
I’m open to all options.
I have no idea what will happen, and in this I am joined by everyone else on here. The difference would appear to be that some will be surprised. I won’t be because I have no hope for a particular one. All I want is what is best for this country. I've got the feeling I will be disappointed because politics will corrupt any deal.
I will admit to a certain confidence in prediction because I’m interested in history and whilst I would agree with anyone who said that it doesn’t repeat itself, the overall form of history stays the same. A lot/many/most MPs will concentrate on what is good for them, and good for their party before the country gets a look in. In this I have a closed mind. History defines.
If anyone wants to believe that it is all wrapped and packaged and we’ll come out of the negotiations after getting one over on the nasty EU, well I’m happy for you. Indeed, you might be right. I doubt it, but anything can happen, as I've said many times.
And finally: I don’t believe any sound bite or spin any PM says. Any. They have all lied in the past, even the sainted Thatcher. It is part of the job. Look at May's history when dealing with the police.
Put not your faith in PMs.
I am of the opinion that the overwhelming probability is that we will leave the eu by any reasonable definition of the phrase. But I am no so closed minded to suggest I know it will happen, nor the form it will take. But you prove otherwise and I'll agree.

The lies of the Leave campaign proved more credible than the lies of the Remain campaign.
It's only the remainers who quite understandably are bleating bitterly about it.
The remainers have the benefit that they will never have their lies tested. They can claim we'd all be farting rainbows now if we'd voted Remain, and we can't prove them wrong. It's only the remainers who quite understandably are bleating bitterly about it.
The talking mouthpieces are getting quite amusing now - lots of strong opinions on the TV from hard left commentators about what the leader of the Conservatives *must* now do. They've stopped short of saying she must become a member of the communist party to save Britain, but they've thrown every other random political theory at her. Watching them try to double speak their way through the recent news on Apple is very entertaining.

Mrs May said this today:
"We must be clear that we are going to make a success of it - that means no second referendum, no attempts to sort of stay in the EU by the back door. That we are actually going to deliver on it."
That seems pretty clear to me then. And she is the PM and people on here are not.

Ah yes but some PH remainers know things she don't "We must be clear that we are going to make a success of it - that means no second referendum, no attempts to sort of stay in the EU by the back door. That we are actually going to deliver on it."

Time to close thread I think. It's run its course now and the continual squabbling by the bitter remainers is getting rather tiring.

It's not Brexit, it's it's brother
Clearly 'dark' forces at work.

Who was most taken in by the lies? Who was most vulnerable to believing a load of tosh? It's only the remainers who quite understandably are bleating bitterly about it.
Same article:
"Research from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation shows that people earning less than £20,000 a year, with lower qualifications and living in low-skilled areas, were the driving force behind Brexit."
Sure there are exceptions. Good that our economic future was decided by "non-experts".

Does that mean we won't have any form of treaties with the EU?
As far as I can see leavers are still expecting to have their cake and eat it.

I would take 'staying in by the back door' to mean the EU offering us a seemingly wonderful UK-only deal in return for us staying in the EU by name (effectively Brussels pandering to the UK as they don't want their project to look like it's starting to crumble) - what she's saying is that whatever happens we will not be an EU state any more so that sort of thing is off the cards. Does that mean we won't have any form of treaties with the EU?

In my opinion!

Because people actually know what makes or brakes economies ? Unlike politicians who just like a good soundbite Fittster said:
So we get all the benefits of EU membership but none of the negatives. For example we can trade with the EU without any movement of people or having to comply with EU regulation. Believe that when I see it.
To repeat - my opinion of what 'staying in by the back door' means would be a big concession from the EU (the sort of thing Cameron should have negotiated) in return for us staying. You won't believe it or see it as it has been ruled out.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
