Indeed, but one would be a good start. Big opportunity for a pro-EU centrist party at the moment, without the baggage of LabCon and EURef.
I actually heard the leader of the Libdems on the radio the other day, which was nice.

All he needs now is a few MPs and he's good to go!

Are Labour still doing that £3 membership deal?

If so, I fancy Diane Abbott this time.

If Corbyn went up against Boris I reckon Boris could get 60 percent of the vote with labour and the liberals wiped out and ukip coming second

If the pro-EU Labour MPs and the pro-EU Conservative MPs had the courage to all defect into a new, centrist, pro-EU party, they'd have >300 MPs on day 1 and most likely at least that after a snap GE. The hard left and hard right would be marginalized for a generation or more.

It is a pleasant daydream to think that they might overcome their party lines to move the country forward in this way.

Is the "left/right" split now an obsolete concept?

If they were all pro-EU they'd be in conflict with the majority wish of the country or am I misunderstanding?

We'd need a GE to establish a mandate for government. If they campaigned on a pro-EU basis and won, presumably that would supersede the referendum result (as that result superseded the last GE result).

I am far from a Labour voter, but I thought Gisela Stuart came across very well on the BBC debate.

Exactly. People who've won a vote love to go on about democracy, but democracy's only as good as the most recent vote.

I am sure you know that's a daft thing to say hehe That's whole idea of a referendum, it cuts across any party politics.

So there's no timeframe in which the result of a referendum can be overturned? 10 years? 20 years?

Anyway, if it's the will of the public, a party campaign based on a pro-EU stance wouldn't win in the GE.

Precisely. I suspect the outcome of a General Election would result in a national political outcome I would not normally remotely regard as welcome - a Labour / SNP alliance - but would stop an act of monumental folly and permanent vandalism to the national infrastructure.

Whether it would be effective depends on whether the Article 50 button had already been pressed.
