Currently have a single wooden gate to the front of our property, i would like to get this automated, it has electric to it or rather to a set of lights on the concrete pillars, would it be a simple DIY (any kit recommendations) or should I look for a company todo the whole lot?

thx

It's easy, if a little time consuming trying to set it up correctly. I enjoyed the challenge.

Complications increase when you start adding intercoms (unless they're wireless) and fitting the safety sensors will require a bit of digging for the cabling.

Can't remember what the regulations said but not sure if you can run it off the existing lighting circuit. I've a feeing it 'technically' needs to be on its own ring main or have its own supply, but I paid an electrician to sort that bit.

WE had a good bit of kit, the gate has its own sim card, if the gate recognizes the phone number calling it as "authorised" it opens the gate. It means you can do it remotely from anywhere. You don't need a fob thing, just your mobile.

Its easy to add and remove numbers

I bought a Mhouse Double swing gate kit from Easygates, was £320. Did the install myself, very easy, just a few hours work. Very happy with result.

It's wired back into the garage, I could have gone into the garage mains but would have needed electrician to do that (still may at some point) but it's fine wired to a socket.

I have the same setup.

For a single motor kit it will be even cheaper, there is a little module that can be added that functions an electric lock which is a must if it is liable to get the wind as the motors are not the strongest.

The kit mentioned that takes a mobile sim card can be integrated with the Mhouse easy enough. Looked into it as doesn't matter how many remotes you get you always need more.

If you wish to abide with current 'elf n safety' requirements then easier to get an installer to do it.
